have M&S changed their jean sizes??

I have 2 pairs of M&S Lily slim jeans. One was bought new with tags in a charity shop about a year ago and fit well, if a wee bit short on the leg. Very comfortable. (I'm a 14 short). Bought another pair new from M&S just after Christmas. They feel so different. Longer on the ankle which isn't a bad thing, but loads roomier around the waist/hip, almost too big. Which is ridiculous as I haven't shrunk.

Have they redone their sizing or something?

I've picked up the same size, same style but in different colours and there's a visible difference in the actual size and length. Very inconsistent.

beadystar · 28/01/2025 17:58

They're inconsistent. I saw a size 8 that was bigger than the size 10 in the same style, just different colour of chinos. Makes shopping so infuriating.

CharityShopChic · 28/01/2025 18:20

Doesn't it just. 2 pairs of jeans which should be identical and 2 different sizes.

The short length is definitely longer these days

SilvieBear · 28/01/2025 18:25

@CharityShopChic I am also a size 14 short. And also buy lily slim short jeans.
I agree, the most recent ones I bought (about 2 weeks ago) are noticeably bigger everywhere. It’s bloody annoying.
WTF M& S.

CharityShopChic · 28/01/2025 18:27

It's so annoying as I hate going shopping in person and can't be faffed with trying on dozens of combinations to try to find what fits. I was sure that ordering a duplicate of the same pair I have in my wardrobe would mean another pair the same and it;s really disappointing that's not the case.

I mean, I would love to be a 12 but i'm really not.

Do we go for a 12 short?
Or the 14 extra short?

iffffonly · 28/01/2025 18:28

I have found that M&S Jeans ok size wise but their linen trousers and chinos are tighter . size 16 always fits comfortably for jeans but I literally cannot get trousers done up around my waist !

ShowAndGo · 28/01/2025 18:29

M&S is so inconsistent with sizing. I sometimes wonder if that's why they have so much stock in theiir outlet stores - it's all orders that haven't quite met the sizing boundaries.

CeceliaImrie · 28/01/2025 18:31

I've found M&S comes up smaller now especially chinos. Per Una have much smaller waist sizes.

Well I find that the 14 short is OK in the length but too roomy round the waist/bum. So 12 short probably. Although if by the time I order there's another change of supplier, they'll be too tight.

I want them to go back to putting the length in inches on their labels because their idea of "short " is anything from about 25 inches to about 30 inches!

I have a pair of Lily slim jeans from nearly three years ago which are my normal size, they are perfect, the latest pair aren't as high waisted, don't fit well and just feel odd, sent to charity shop. Also the fabric of the newer pair was quite hard and uncomfortable. Have gone for Sienna Supersoft now but the fabric softness differs a lot too, makes buying online difficult.

CharityShopChic · 28/01/2025 19:40

I agree with the fabric being "hard". I did get a nice pair from Costco a few months ago too but they rarely have the same things in twice.

I have just ordered a pair of M&S trousers - not jeans - in a 14 short for work. Hate second guessing whether they'll actually fit or not.

I recently bought a pair of cropped jeans from M&S to wear on holiday. Tried on the 14 in the changing rooms. They fitted but I wanted them a bit looser so bought the 16 instead. Didn't try them on. Yeah, they're the same size as the 14. 🙄

FishPie2 · 29/01/2025 21:58

I bought brown cords size 12 and liked them then ordered black in the same ones. Far too small round the waist and longer in the leg. When I took them back the assistant told me the black always come up smaller. Made in same factory.

Treshik · 29/01/2025 22:01

I bought 2 pairs of the same but different colour M&S jeans, one pair fit lovely, the other were awfully tight and unflattering. Makes no sense to me!

napody · 29/01/2025 22:02

As a teenager I worked in a warehouse and one of the jobs was checking M&S clothes 'matched' their size label. The range of measures that would count as a match was ridiculous- as a pp said a '10' could be smaller than an 8 and bigger than a 12. I haven't put too much store by sizes on labels since!

ThePussy · 12/03/2025 08:45

I’ve been a size 18 in M & S jeans for years. Went to buy some new jeans the other day and even the size 22 was too tight!

OublietteBravo · 12/03/2025 08:49

I’ve given up because every pair is high rise/high waisted at the moment. I tried on an allegedly mid rise pair, and I swear that they are actually higher waisted than the high rise ones.
