Something to clear out clusters of teen spots - TMI alert

HalfMarathonWishItWasTheChoc · 28/01/2025 14:11

My teen is quite spotty. I do have some good skin care for him, and it is definitely helping overall. However, he keeps getting a cluster of spots (4 or 5) in one place, usually middle of his cheeks.

Is there anything we can use to clean out the gunk e.g. like use a bit of mud mask just on this bit? Or I’m looking for a better recommendation. He doesn’t really want to go to school with this unsightly cluster.

Sorry if it’s TMI

I find these really effective - especially the blue ones. I find the circle patches tend to make things worse.

Also African black soap & a toner

Teenage spots are so horrid

I've always been one to just squeeze my spots. Gets rid of the pain and they go away quicker. I hate the idea of pus just festering under my skin with the possibility of getting infected or becoming cystic. Never had an infected spot or scarring from squeezing. 🤷‍♀️

People will probably be horrified but have just cleared my DCs skin with the Johnson’s salycilic toner for sensitive skin. Worked a treat.

Take him to his GP to get acne medication

Something oral like lymecycline usually works to clear by 3 months along with Acnecide as a topical adjunct

KittenPause · 28/01/2025 15:40

Dermalogica Clear start is a great face wash and very concentrated so a little goes a long way

Its what DD uses. She used to use Cerave SA but it's quite watery and an Inkey list SA face wash

DS face became very clear once he started shaving regularly but he didn't have the acne cheek clusters

Has he tried benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid?

IJustLoveDogsTBH · 28/01/2025 21:35

DD had skin consultation recently as her skin is bad at the moment and they recommended Salicylic Acid.

Second this!

TheSillyGoose · 28/01/2025 21:43

Anything sith salicylic acid. This is the active ingredient that prevents the build up of puss in the first place.
