Black smart and comfy work clothes

I need to invest (but not much money) in smart and comfortable plain black clothing for one of my jobs. I work for theatres and need to wear all black to be discrete and blend in but am running up and down stairs and bending over etc as well as welcoming people. So I need trousers and tops or long shirt dresses or tunics and leggings that might work for this….any ideas? Long sleeve and well covered but not over heating! Any one stop shops or ideas? The bits and bobs I have used over the years are starting to look a bit tatty or uncomfortable as I’ve put on a bit of weight :-(

if I don’t need to be in workshop wear blacks I use Uniqlo and Gap.

Have you considered M&S. I know in another thread on here someone mentioned that they thought their workwear was a good standard. Must admit since the local one closed I have not ben in a branch recently.

I’d probably try to get everything from

Community Clothing

just because.

Bargain picks: Matalan, H&M, Cider, Primark

Slightly more expensive: M&S, Mango, Everlane

High street: Abercrombie, Arket

I've picked up a few bits in the Very sale that I'm happy with. Also, there are some bargains on Vinted.

I've been impressed with BAM if you need stretchy tops or leggings, they are comfortable and wash well without fading, which will be your main issue in keeping smart.

Or look at a workwear supplier, they normally do smart black shirts, trousers etc aimed at hospitality staff which stand up to frequent wearing and washing. Front of House Uniforms

I'd go for this too. Uniqlo do some really good wide leg chinos/Baker trousers. Plus shirt dresses etc.

I've always been pretty impressed with Matalan for workwear.

Thanks folks - I actually found myself in a couple of charity shops today and pleased with a small hall of suitable things! Think I’ll augment with M&S and Uniqlo but going to keep my eye on Vinted and charity shops. I am keen to try and buy as much second hand this year …and keep costs low.
