What are Debenhams like

Particularly for big orders to try sizes and returns? I haven’t used them since the high street shops.

Absolutely awful. You can't cancel and some distributers charge for collection.

I bought a headboard I realised was the wrong size. I tried to cancel but was told that wasn't possible and that I had to accept the order and return. I arranged the return and was told it was £40 collection fee.

I bought another item which they delivered, left outside, didn't tell me it was there and it got stolen. I'm now having to battle them for a refund.

Customer service is a joke. There's no phone number and they have 'live chat' which entails waiting a few days for a response then a different customer service agent after each question. There's a long gap between each response.

I'm never buying from them again.

Ok. Thanks. I’d rather pay full price from a better retailer.

I placed an order recently but thought I was ordering from Dorothy Perkins because that's the website I'd entered. It wasn't until I had several emails saying every single item I'd ordered was out of stock that I found out it was Debenhams.
The money was still taken from my account despite every item being out of stock so then I had to wait for it to be refunded.

I then received an email telling me they'd cancelled my order because some of the prices I'd been charged were incorrect and they were entitled to do this under their terms and conditions.

Not somewhere I'd be rushing to order from again.

Given the literally millions of other clothing retailers we have access to online I can’t think of a single reason why anyone would choose Debenhams.

And yet All Too Often I open a thread where an OP is asking for style advice - and the first post links her to some nylon monstrosity from Debenhams. It’s incomprehensible.

VotingForYourself · 26/01/2025 07:34

They're alright if you don't order to return so make sure you look at sizing etc carefully. It confuses me as it feels a bit clearance warehouse but it isn't?

Ahh explains a lot

I’ve had to chase my return refunds which luckily I was only able to do because I had not only the postage receipts but photos of the paper postage labels that were in the original parcel.

Customer service wasn’t interested in helping me until I provided all this proof. Has taken over a month to resolve and I’m still waiting for the money to once back to my account. Won’t be using again!

StrangeNew · 26/01/2025 07:42

clearance warehouse is exactly how the entity comes across nowadays.

I certainly don’t get the impression (when I inevitably click a link out of morbid curiosity) of an actual online shop.

I should say, @Bargaintools that I once asked an OP why they only wanted recommendations for Next - and their reasons covered exactly your requirements. I haven’t shopped at Next since the 90s, and only know its stock from various threads here - but if convenience is your priority you might as well look there.

Any on line retailer which charges for returns is a big no from me.
I too have found Debenhams returns policy and process terrible.
Never ever again.
TBF it was a shit hole when it was a real shop, it was never going to be any better on line.
