What Are Your Thoughts on the Revival of Y2K Fashion Trends? Love It or Hate It?

Lately, it seems like the early 2000s are making a major comeback in the fashion world.

From low-rise jeans and bedazzled accessories to baby tees and chunky platform shoes, Y2K fashion is everywhere!

(O.O)
Do you love this nostalgic revival, or do you feel it’s a trend better left in the past?

Do you think this trend will stick around or fade quickly?

Fashion always is, was and will forever be cyclical. It's just always a rude awakening when you realise that you remember particular trends the previous time round 😂.

I think the current trend is very 90s - flares/bootleg jeans, chunkier shoes as you say. Not sure how I'd categorise early noughties trends other than still being a bit 90s. Ugg boots maybe 🤷‍♀️

iamnotalemon · 25/01/2025 13:30

How do I feel? Old

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 25/01/2025 13:33

Personally I can't wait for Peplum tops, skinny jeans and statement necklaces to make a comeback, as well as fitted coats. Had enough of this baggy oversized minimal trend!

TammyOne · 25/01/2025 13:40

yeah the shoes are more 90s currently. I worked in fashion in early 2000s and I remember VERY well
what we wore … I recall scarf tops, very low slung bootcut jeans, very high spindly or slightly chunky heels, fake fur jackets, shearling coats, Halston inspired dresses, pencil skirts. Massive bling earrings. It was all very extravagant and glam. Loved it 🥰 NOT wearing all that again though, although I do still enjoy a heel and a Vivienne Westwood dress.

Oh well, yeah, that too!!

GellerYeller · 25/01/2025 14:26

Bejewelled thongs on display over low rise bootcuts, oversized or mens combats, strappy satin tops? Not sure I could carry those off now!
Can we revive Kookai and early 2000s TopShop though please?!

GellerYeller · 25/01/2025 14:34

I’ve said this here before, but the return of those Y2K chain and boho leather studded belts may feel ‘vintage Sienna Miller’ but veer dangerously towards Deirdre Barlow.

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 26/01/2025 14:38

Your tone is very morning show editorial OP. Are you scouting for ideas for tomorrow's production meeting?

Livingingrey · 26/01/2025 15:09

When I see teens wearing the exact same clothes as I did I pity them. My clothes were weird textures, too low rise, too long, just so uncomfortable 🤣

I saw a girl wearing a mesh top with the New York skyline printed on it. I had the exact same top from Tammy Girl in approx 1999!

Feeling old but I love how the younger generation are reviving it and making it their own x

whatflite · 02/06/2025 10:14

I went to a uni 20 year reunion recently - we dressed up in our old 2005 get up - no one knew we were in fancy dress!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 02/06/2025 16:49

Its great, baggy fit wide leg jeans, flares, skater shorts I'm in my bloody element again. I cant do low rise bootcut jeans with my mum tum though.

I an finding skinny fit t shirts and tops hard, I wasn't particularly slim the first time round but with a high waist its doable.

I ADORED the hip belts over my gypsy skirts, but back then I was Sienna Miller and I fear nowadays I'm Deirdre Barlow.

God rest her soul.

I've been waiting for the return of the muffin top since forever. High rise really does not suit my shape, digestive process or pelvic integrity. Bring back the mid or even low rise, anything's better than looking like Tweedle bloomin dee.

I have fond memories of the tiered gipsy skirt and hip belt, it suited everybody, but a victim of its own success I fear, can't see it coming back...

BlackFriYay · 02/06/2025 19:56

I love most of it just not the low rise jeans. My midriff is mangled from 3 pregnancies and a c-section, so they are a total no-go for me.

Lol mine's not exactly washboard but it's amazing what a top can hide! I just look more in proportion, must be short waisted i guess.

You described it perfectly. So many people forget that true y2k fashion women trends were all about glam, shine, and that over-the-top energy. The scarf tops, low-rise bootcuts, furry jackets, and big earrings were everywhere. It definitely had its charm, but I get why most of us aren’t eager to bring all of it back. A great heel and a Vivienne Westwood dress are timeless though. ❤️

RayonSunrise · 13/03/2026 07:50

Absolutely loving the return of bootcut/flares, and even cautiously finding low waists better than anticipated.

Laiste · 13/03/2026 21:51

Loving it!!

Doing it a little less low rise these days but the silhouette of tight tops and flared trousers is so flattering on me. Bung in a pair of wedge heel strappy sandals to the mix and it's a win here 😃
