True rose 🌹 perfume on a budget?

BurntOrangeAutumn · 25/01/2025 12:38

Any recommendations for a true rose perfume on a budget?
I am not in the UK so unfortunately can't get those small perfume samples people have recommended on here before.
I can easily buy from zara, next, notino, look fantastic, marks & Spencer etc. All online though so will be taking a gamble!
Thanks in advance 🌹

I'm pretty sure I have one from Zara somewhere.
I love rose scents.

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/01/2025 13:15

I think there may be a discontinued one from Paul Costello which is always well reviewed and can be picked up quite reasonably.
Check out Fragonard via marks - very good scents and there may be a rose. I have their orange blossom fragrances.

Yardley Flowerful Opulent Rose, available from Boots. It's often on offer and full price is £26. It's hard to find anywhere else though. The regular Yardley Rose perfume is ok for about £15, and available all over the place, but the Opulent Rose one is much nicer IMO.

They definitely used to have a rose one. I used to buy it whenever I went to Paris. It is pure rose.

Bvlgari rose used to be the best. It was exquisite but they discontinued it.

OP - it might be worth investing in a good quality rose essential oil, blending it with a little almond oil - 1 drop to 5ml and using that as your perfume.

WrinklesShminkles · 25/01/2025 13:21

The discontinued one was by Paul Smith.

Hi, I'm scared to do the essential oils thing! I got some essens dupes before & they gave me blinding headaches 🙈

Thank you everyone!
Are any of the current zara ones good? Anyone own any?

Yes! That's right!

The Body Shop rose perfume was always very good. It's changed name and packaging now and is called British Rose. I don't know if the scent is the same but it will be relatively cheap to find out and if all else fails can be used as air freshener. You should be able to get it on Notino.

I have this. It's very strong and very rose

It's divided opinion in my house but I like it.

tattooshka · 25/01/2025 13:41

If I could figure out how , I could send you some to try ! I had a little atomiser but was never able to transfer perfume from
A large bottle to it !

TinyRebel · 25/01/2025 13:45

I love the Neals Yard wild rose beauty balm and was given a pot many years ago. It still smells amazing. If I could, I’d layer on all their rose scented skincare and dab on some of their essential oil.

MissBattleaxe · 25/01/2025 13:58

The Yardley English Rose is terrific. I remember wearing it on a very hot day and it was very rosy and actually quite refreshing. Yardley excels at florals. This is an eau de toilette but it had good staying power and I could really smell it throughout the day.

Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose is also brilliant and under £20.

Dupes are not the same as the actual oils. I'll try and find a link to some trusted ones.

This Tisserand one should be reliable. It's only 2ml for £16 but you'd add a single drop to 5ml of sweet almond oil, and 2ml holds approximately 40 drops.

Neal's Yard would also be reliable but I think they might dilute their essential rose oil. It is so expensive now. That's why perfumers have stopped using it so much. The synthetic stuff stinks.

Fartughtyred · 25/01/2025 14:17

This is around the 20 euro mark and smells gorgeous!

@Fartughtyred That's a good find. Caudalie are a reliable brand and that is a good price. I'm tempted to try it. Lots of the synthetics smell like air freshener on me but at that price from that brand, it's worth a shot. Thank you for linking to it.

It's gorgeous and I have been complimented more than once whilst wearing it! I don't think you'll be disappointed - It was the only rose scent that actually smelt like roses as I remember them smelling. Although not an 'Eau de Parfum' at that price, one can afford to use it liberally!

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 25/01/2025 15:02

What you describe is called a 'soliflore'. The Body Shop British Rose might work for you - it is an updated version of Tea Rose if you remember that from the 80s-90s.

isthismylifenow · 25/01/2025 15:09

I am not sure if it's still available where you are, but see if you can find Juicy Couture Royal Rose. Forewarning... it's strong!

I think it may have been discontinued now but some places might still have.

It's a smoky rose, then dries down to musk. I hated it at first, I just sprayed as a tester. But later that day I could not stop smelling my arm. After the first blast, it is really gorgeous. So I went back for it the next day. It lasts days on clothing and a full day on skin.

It's my winter scent, so if you are looking for a fresh summery rose scent, it won't be this.

Was coming on to mention I've got the rose Caudalie hand cream and it's making me look at buying the scent!

I still really miss the Stella McCartney rose perfume but I get a little of it in the Caudalie

M&S has an entire own brand pure rose perfume/toiletries range. DM loves rose scented toiletries. She likes the M&S and Bodyshop ranges. She also uses Faith in Nature rose shampoo and conditioner. M&S also has some other brands eg Monotheme, Fragonard. I haven’t tried their rose fragrance but their other pure scents are excellent.

The M&S perfume is £14 but they do a gift set with toiletries for the same price. Maybe that would be a good way to try it out as the toiletries can be used still even if you don’t love the scent.
