What shoes & accessories would you wear with this dress?

I'm dressing it down rather than up. It's for a work thing, most people will be stylish smart-casual. (Effortlessly, it seems!!) Some will be a little boho. Even the plain smart ones seem too look cool.

I really struggle with this!

There will be a fair amount of walking as part of the event so I'll need to be in flats. Boots maybe?

What would you wear with it? (FWIW I'm plus size!)

That’s a nice dress. Where’s is it from?

boots might look good.

It's Phase Eight, it's on the sale at the moment. https://www.phase-eight.com/product/candice-purple-button-mini-dress-221856600.htm

I bought it several months ago, I really like it. I can't remember not if I paid full price or a sale price. Probably for the best!

I've got a pair of boots I usually wear with it and I have an event next week. However:

a. I can't find them anywhere!
b. I've never been sure if they really go with this dress anyway
c. I've just been paid Grin

And so I think it's time for something new.

Dress looks perfect for your work thing, I think it would look great with tights and ankle boots, or chunky thick sole shoes, if that’s more your style.

christmaslatte · 23/01/2025 01:59

How about these, do you think these go? They're Fly London and come in few different colours.

Or maybe some fur lined DMs if I can find them in a sale? (Wow they're pricey these days!)

Or is this veering on dressing like a teenager?! (Teenage me that is!)

I'm in my 40s FWIW.

I like the Fly London ones but the full on Docs may be a bit too much imo.

Hmmm....

Maybe the fly London ones are a bit too much too?

I really don't ever want to wear heels to work any more (for comfort) but I struggle to know what suits when it's not a heel!

I would get boots but colourful ones, in a contrasting or complementary color. I would then wear a long scarf in a color that pulled them both together, but that’s pretty much my answer to everything

Hails68 · 23/01/2025 03:01

I think that the Fly boots would look great with it with thick tights

40s,would test out cinching the dress with a thick belt both on waist and empire line as I need the shaping) size 14-18,changes with health issues) . DM boots, tights, leather jacket. That's my style though,. Love the purple

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 23/01/2025 03:22

Personally not a fan of the fly boots but again subjective. What makes you feel good?

Theresacatinmykitchenwhatamigonnado · 23/01/2025 05:19

When you say 'walking', are you actually outside for much or all of the day? Because if so, what coat are you going to wear?
I think the dress is a bit tricky, it's a funny length. I'd probably go for boots but something mid calf and chunky rather than ankle boots.

We're inside. I'm part of the team facilitating so although most of them spend a a lot of time on their bottoms, I'll be up and about a lot of the time.

What kind of mid calf boots are you thinking of?

Ha! While I love the idea of cinching in principle, I'm sorry to say my cinching days are at least a decade behind me.

I am very, very round these days and I own this dress precisely because it has no waist!

Love the sound of your look, enjoy cinching if you can!

I love fly London boots, I've had a pair before and I wore them lots. Very comfortable.

But I'm not sure they actually go with this dress?

I think the boots you have posted are too clumpy.
How about a pair of flat riding boots?

Thingamebobwotsit · 23/01/2025 09:39

I have the fly London boots in black. They are super comfortable and not as chunky as DMs. I would definitely wear them with that dress.

The only thing with chunky boots, however, is the length of the dress. I am quite short and find chunky boots can make my legs look shorter if the dress is a bit long. I tend to wear small heeled, finer boots for that length, and chunkier boots for shorter skirt lengths.

Nicecatneighbour · 23/01/2025 09:40

Don't fly London do a boot with a small wedge heel?
