Hits from Beauty Advent Calendars?

Thought it might be interesting to compile a list of the hits from the various beauty advents calendars which we’ve been enjoying.

I had the Liberty AC (which I thought was generally excellent this year) and my top 3 are:

  1. Dr Sebagh rose serum - leaves my skin incredibly soft and nourished. Instant effect.
  2. Surratt blush in Ponceau - a powder blush which is very pigmented but really flattering on my pale olive skin. Looks natural, not matt/powdery. Bit of a surprise hit.
  3. Sam McKnight Deeper Love hair mask. Another surprise hit, as my hair is generally impervious to the claimed benefits of hair products and I have low expectations. On a first use, this mask made a very noticeable difference to my fine perimenopausal hair. The ends are noticeably smoothed and there’s a glossiness which wasn’t there before. Instantly ordered a full pot.

The Sunday Riley Good Genes serum is also excellent but I have been using it for years and so it wasn’t a new discovery through this year’s AC.

Shamelessly copied & pasted from the Space NK thread so I don't have to type this out!

Space NK

K18 hair mask fantastic stuff, has transformed my hair
Summer Fridays lip butter balm £23 & Rare Beauty Lip Oil £20 both lovely
Chantecaille Cheek Gelee love it very natural great colour
Supergoop Sunscreen £35 surprisingly flattering. Maybe not enough SPF for summer use on its own as you need to use it sparingly
Sunday Riley CEO Glow £34 have used before and love it
Kate Somerville ExfoliKate £69 ditto, glad to see this in the calendar
Lisa Eldridge's Luxuriously Lucent lipstick £27 not 100% the best colour for me but I love the formulation and packaging and will buy other colours from this range
Olaplex bonding oil £28 have used before
Hourglass Blush £44 really lovely
Space NK body wash £8 and Eve Lom cleanser £48 50ml have used the cleanser before, the body wash is very nice
Kosas AirBrow £20 massively surprised by this. I have naturally dark and thick eyebrows so the whole "brow products" thing has passed me by, but this definitely makes me look more groomed and awake
Perfume ‘I don’t know what’ D & S Durga. huge hit, I love it alone or layered. Only the price is holding me back from purchasing straight away

Overall, I loved the Space NK calendar, my first time, I usually get Elemis or JL.

There were other serums and SPFs/primers which may also be lovely but I'm trying to limit how many I have open at any one time

Overall I was super happy with the calendar. 2 things I passed on to a young friend: SdJ body spray and a Rodial highlighter . And in terms of balance I thought the Christmas Day drawer was not a wow product, although perfectly nice, and it was a bit heavy on primer/serum and a candle or another body product would have been nice

ASOS

Grown Alchemist face scrub, smells utterly divine and left my skin feeling lovely, unfortunately it was tiny and is £££ to re-buy!

I can see (as a product junkie) that this thread could be dangerous! Tempted by the cheek gelee and the K18 hair mask mentioned by @Defiantlynot41 .

Also M&S - mostly very disappointed with it this year (tiny sized products and too much hair stuff) but there were a few hits

This Works Deep Sleep Body Whip cream which has magnesium in it and really, really helps me get to sleep.

I like it so much I'm buying more off Vinted as people are selling them on there 😄

I'd had it before but the only hair product I liked is the brilliant Living Proof 5 in 1 style cream. Also enjoying the upmentioned Vanilla perfume which is lovely.

bigTillyMint · 19/01/2025 13:47

I was only thinking about what people liked best from advent calendars earlier this morning!

I agree with the M&S The Works sleep cream - smells great too!

Shayisgreat · 19/01/2025 13:59

Chantecaille Cheek Gelee - this was my fav from SpaceNK as well.

AgricolaOrBed · 19/01/2025 14:21

Ok, can’t resist any longer - have ordered the gelee.

The sleep cream sounds lovely too. I have restless legs so it can be hard to nod off if I’m twitching.

LookFantastic and Next

Unfortunately I can't remember which products came from which AC but....

Estée Lauder Night Repair Treatment..a small sample but I love it!

OSKIA serum, gorgeous but oh so expensive to repurchase!

Avant Rose and Papaya face scrub. The best face scrub I've ever used, gentle but effective and the rose fragrance is beautiful. Again veeeery spendy.

kerstina · 19/01/2025 18:19

From the Selfridges I liked Marfa by memo Paris, the Nars lip balm, fenty lip gloss and Charlotte tilbury magic water cream but I still have a lot to try out. Fenwicks I liked the little mini lipstick by Caroline herrera

Wishimaywishimight · 19/01/2025 18:21

I loved Nuxe, will definitely get it again. Still have a few 'doors' to open but so far I will or have used everything in it 🙂
