Extremely chapped lips!

Hi all, been having issues for months with my lips being extremely chapped.
I’ve tried all manner of things from pure shea butter, Eucerin lip balm, various other ones that promise they will fix chapped lips.

Every morning I seem to wake up with chapped lips no matter how much greasiness I lather on the night before 😓

You need to moisturise them before adding the greasy layer, so it then seals that moisture in. Something like Blistex is amazing but a pot of Nivea would help too. Then something with lanolin, ideally. Lanolips are great. Once they're getting back to normal the Laneige masks are great overnight.
Not Vaseline! The petroleum actually.makes your lips dryer over time.

Poppins2016 · 19/01/2025 01:53

Here's another vote for lanolin. I use Lansinoh (better value, but the tube will be hanging around a long time) or Lanolips (relatively expensive for a small amount). I discovered the benefits of Lansinoh while breastfeeding and will never go back to "normal" lip balm, as it's a miracle worker.

Vaseline does something weird to my dry lips. It turns the dry skin into thick, plasticky plates that click in and out like the pop-up button on a jam jar lid. (And which scream to be ripped off in sheets Blush)

Lanolin. Nothing beats lanolin. Get a squeezy lip tube that's lanolin based. Look up lanolips. It's amazing and also works in 35 degree summer sun.

I agree with this. Lanolips lanolin is amazing, read up on them. The banana 🍌 one is very good and a good bit of it is shea butter.

Savlon left on overnight. Hylauronic acid once a day. And check your iron levels.

Coffee62 · 19/01/2025 02:39

Thanks all, a lot of suggestions and things to consider!

B vitamins in your diet.

PeopleLikeColdplay · 19/01/2025 03:25

What works for me is using no balm at all, drinking loads of water, and being really careful not to lick my lips.

Yikes 😦

Vaseline is petroleum so maybe that’s why? It’s a step away from engine oil.

OKeefes was the only thing that helped when I was on Roaccutane

Extremely chapped lips!

Chapped lips can often be caused by dehydration. Try upping your water intake to 8 or more glasses of water a day and see if it helps. I had chronic chapped lips before and now only need a little chapstick at night as long as I stay hydrated.

ListToHunt · 19/01/2025 06:11

OP if you try the suggestions above - 8hr cream, Lansinoh, Carmex, O'Keeffes- and none of them work, I have one for you. It is literally the only thing that stops my lips from drying and chapping: it's miracle stuff.

The product is a little lipstick-sized lip balm from La Roche Posay. They don't sell it in Boots etc.: you'll have to go on their website to order it.

I only discovered it by chance, adding it onto the end of an order to get free postage, or something like that - but it works wonders! It isn't cheap, but I've worn it daily for 3 yrs and it's only just running out.

Laneige sleeping mask for lips changed my life. It will rescue your lips.

Hard agree

Blistex is amazing

This. It's they only thing that works when mine are sore, Vas doesn't do a thing for me.

Justalittlenaughty · 19/01/2025 06:57

Burt's Bees 🐝 its bees wax, I've had similar issues and it's the only thing that works, specifically mint or honey flavour.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/01/2025 08:21

Blistex intensive care, available on Amazon. All the Vaseline / grease / wax products do is make it worse.

Miq · 19/01/2025 08:32

Check for b12 deficiency. This, especially at the corners, was a sign of my serious deficiency.

Thanks so much for this recommendation, bought it today for my horrendously chapped lips and can see and feel a huge improvement already!

BlackCat25 · 20/01/2025 18:58

Agree with @LadyGAgain Lanolin works every time! Available in UK high street chemists in an orange tube called’Lanolips’…. relatively expensive for a small tube at around £8 (I buy when on sale) but it will totally repair even the driest of lips, especially if you put it on before bed.

henlake7 · 20/01/2025 19:13

I actually found a good moisturizing lipstick worked better then any lip balms for me.

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream

I love mine too and swear by it. Worth the price

I also agree with this. If mine have got really badly chapped this is the only thing that really helps.

Bfmamma · 20/01/2025 19:23

Nipple cream is the best and the blistex lip balm range are the best ones, anything else and by lips get dry and crack
