Getting used to earrings again?

I haven’t worn earrings for about twenty years, though the holes have somehow stayed open. Out of curiosity I’ve just bought a pair of plain gold huggie earrings and I can’t help feeling that they look… weird on me somehow? I have short hair and usually dress quite tomboyish, for want of a better word, and these tiny bits of gold in my lobes feel a bit like a frilly pink cushion on an Eames recliner - an out-of-place, hyper-feminine adornment. Should I just give up on earrings or will I get used to them?

Interesting thought!

I have very short hair and over the past few decades have rarely strayed from a pair of tiny gold hoops with emerald stones. I’d feel naked without them.

I love your analogy but am inclined to think earrings enhance most heads - it’s just a matter of finding what suits you. Presumably you decided gold worked better with your colouring than silver? Did you try both?

My current favourite earring place is Sophie Buhai. Absolutely nothing frilly to be seen - have a look:

Those are beautiful (though waaaaay beyond my budget!) but yes, I definitely look better in gold than silver. Maybe it’s just a question of giving myself time to get used to them? I do tend to feel self-conscious in anything too overtly feminine (more of a ‘tinted lip balm’ than ‘lipstick’ person, for example), as if I’m in drag.

Keep them! You'll get used to your new look
