Black tie if you like toast/ gudren sjoden

I need to go to a black tie event, and I have no idea what to wear!!! I normally wear toast (if I can afford it) when I want to make an effort, but it’s not exactly black tie material.

i m an apple shape so prefer floaty things and big patterns or colours, but last time I did that at black tie event literally everyone else was wearing black and I stuck out like a sort thumb.

What do you wear for black tie if you like toast (and have a bit of a belly…)?

Oh wow - that dress is incredible! Unfortunately i don’t wear silk (I’m vegan) but otherwise it would be perfect

How far off is the event? Some of the toast velvet dresses or the batik/jacquard ones online atm could be passable for BT if styled correctly. Could have a look on vinted?

@Brackenfield good point. It’s in early March so likely to still be cold. Do you think something like this would look ok or ridiculous on a middle aged woman?

That also has silk content sorry

Marimekko is high end compared to gudrun sjoden but sometimes has some dresses that might suit.

No to the toast dress, definitely not black tie suitable (lovely with thick black tights and boots though)

I'd opt for something longer myself and fitted on the waist

What about this

That’s nice! It’s on the more casual end for black tie so you’d probably want to glam it up with heels and jewellery. Gold would look nice, maybe a long pendant

I saw someone in a Toast orange velvet jumpsuit recently and it looked awesome.

Or maybe look at Cos, Issey Miyake or that kind of brand?

This is sold out, but something like it?

If you like a colourful print then have a look at farmrio.

It’s silk.

Why would it look ridiculous on a middle aged woman?

It's quite nice but I don't think it or the Sahara dress are dressy enough for black tie.
