What shoes with this dress?

Thoughts? I think the silver ones look great, but I'm a bit too pale for that to work.

I do think we might be sisters from another mister @bunnybunnybunnybunny.

I bloody love metallic ankle socks.

I get a pair in my Christmas stocking every year.

Garlicnorth · 17/01/2025 02:43

For dress-up events with grass & gravel, I will only wear wedge shoes. Any sort of heel is going to stick and trip. There are those perspex strips, they look like they should work; I've never tried 'em because I go for wedges!

I love the look of those transparent shoes. Don't know what they'd be like to wear, though. I once had a pair of transparent stilettoes that were fine, even to run in - the upper was a flexible PVC.

I actually think your raffia (?) Valentinos will look nice ... but I'd never discourage a woman from getting new shoes!

Sonant · 17/01/2025 02:54

@CertainUncertain don't wear the Rockstud wedges.

No...

They would ruin the fuck out of that beautiful dress.

Absolutely not.

If you're set on wedges;

Mebbe these

Not perfect, but simple.

Maybe the Prada mules, simple but glitzy;

I do love the Dries though, which were my first thought.

No to Rockstud wedges with the beautiful dress.

It's a fucking insult.

NO.

I hadn't noticed the studs 😂

Well, what a refreshing thread. That dress is beautiful. I had a quick look on the Harvey Nichols site and found these. I love the golden Jimmy Choos, but there are some darker ones, though I think pale is fine. Enjoy your quest and the party

Lovely dress! Oliver Bonas had some gold platform sandals in the summer which would look amazing with it!

Sonant · 17/01/2025 07:57

I don't think the Choos are quite right @TriangleLight, a bit polite maybe.

The Saint Laurent Biancas are a possibility. They could work.

Sonant · 17/01/2025 08:09

I'm still drawn to the Dries though.

Do you have a gold cuff? I have an Elsa Peretti silver bone cuff, but I could see a gold one with the Dries shoes.

What's your hair like @CertainUncertain?

I do think hair makes or breaks an outfit.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 17/01/2025 10:26

I'm team Dries (and if I can figure out the maths, I might succumb).

By all accounts, OP has great legs so she really doesn't need a wedge heel or anything particularly heavy to elongate them or make her ankles more pronounced. As the dress is beautifully decorative, I wouldn't wear a shoe with an ankle strap or too much embellishment. This is why the Dries are so perfect, they compliment the detailing on the dress but aren't matchy matchy. With gold shoes, I'd probably wear lapis or turquoise jewellery or even giant pearl studs.

I love putting an outfit together. Thank you OP for letting me live vicariously

MsWintertowne · 17/01/2025 10:33

I would only wear the gold Dries sandals with my plainest outfit - maybe a navy or brown jumper and skirt ensemble - so the shoes are the standout thing. Sometimes by accident I find myself wearing two noticeable things in one outfit and feel horribly fussily dressed.

I think that's a mistake because the dress is simple, yet not.

So the immediate reaction is to lean into the simple and sleek.

But! Juxtapose is so much more fun and I do think the Dries work in that way, they reflect what de la Renta is doing with the dress.

Here we are. What are we doing?

It's got the beautiful craftsmanship of de la Renta, but with the shape and discs of Rabanne, it does give it a slight Barbarella vibe which is why the Dries shoes work as a counterpoint.

I'd muss my hair up, get the biggest sunglasses you can, and work the fuck out of it.

I'd also put some smeary make-up on.

But that's me!

Sonant · 17/01/2025 10:57

I always feel best when I throw an unexpected element into an outfit.

I don't like to dress politely.

CertainUncertain · 17/01/2025 13:17

Thank you all so much for all these amazing suggestions (and for no one having told me I could have found the same dress cheaper by George at Asda :). I'm going through all of them.

@Garlicnorth Yeah, the studs are pretty awful. Not sure what possessed me. I'm not a huge wedge lover, so don't know how much use I'd get out of a pair. Although I can always be converted for the right pair! And, to be fair, my absolute favourite boots ever are these, which have a definite wedge https://www.24s.com/en-gb/rumi-cowboy-heeled-ankle-boots-ann-demeulemeester_ADMG4DF3BCKUZA1A00?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADL9HX709h4VNZZ5fk8DiSgxHvlzN&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzvyDgeT8igMVTZhQBh3AAy_DEAQYByABEgKX5_D_BwE

@TriangleLight
My sister has those Louboutin sandals, so I'm going to try them. Her feet are a tiny bit smaller than mine, so I'm not sure if they'll fit.

@Sonant
Ok, I love those Pradas except for that bloody logo. It drives me mad.
Hair: No idea what colour it is, and have no intention of finding out anytime soon, but thanks to my hairdresser it looks like it's darkish brown with a few caramel bits. Shoulder length. It's what I think of a solid hair - decent but not exciting in any way. It can go up or down.

@bunnybunnybunnybunny
I can't decide about the Dries shoes. I sort of love them and sort of hate them. It might be that you have to be American to have this particular dread, but I'm always afraid of anything that I think could make me look like a Mar-a-Lago hanger on.

I'm going to see if I can hunt down a pair of the Tibi Curly Victors, which seem to be mostly sold out.

Just to muddy the water a little more, I decided it would be nice if I could make this bag work. It's an old favourite that rarely gets an outing because it's awful to carry, so only works at events where you arrive with it and then hang in on your chair

Gold, silver, white, Nude. Minimal. Strappy. If you can't bear delicate stilettos try a minimalist wedge.

No colours, you don't want the eye drawn down to a block of foot colour. The whole shape of the dress is working to draw the eye up, lean into it!
