I've a big reunion and haven't seen many of my uni friends for over twenty years. I would like to look my best but tiredness, weight , stress has not been kind to my face or my body.
With weight training and walking along with a calorie deficit , I hope to be a toned 12/14. Please advise me as to how I can look my absolute best . I've ten months !!!
Which designers do great dresses? Preferably red !!!
Why not!!

I'm an hourglass too and this dress looks like it would suit the shape.

Stunning! Would it be too much for dinner and drinks?

I’m hourglass s14 - Karen Millen have some great styles for my shape. On the cheaper side, I also find Phase Eight work well.

I generally go for a more bodycon style and show my curves, but wear high neck and sleeves.

LK Bennett sell some quite well structured dresses in block colours. More affordable than the RM - which I love by the way.

Have you any idea what kind of style and budget the others would be going for, but as wonderful as these dresses are, I would look completely over the top if I wore one at any of my reunions.

It's hard to get balance between looking fabulous to out of place and feeling awkward.

Doggymummar · 18/01/2025 10:59

I love that you're planning ahead and have a goal to work towards. Bit like the lady above tho, I would be worried about feeling out of place with people I hadn't seen for so long. That's probably a me anxiety thing. I never lived up to my promise and had the stella Pulitzer prize winning career. I would wear something that I was comfortable in and I know looks fab on me, rather than using it as an opportunity to go all out. IF I had that career, and that was my lifestyle then absolutely one of those outfits would be amazing and get a lot of use. Otherwise I would hire something or get something I could wear again. Damsel in. Dress and Karen Millen is my price point. Have fun on the journey 😄

I got this in the next sale - it’s really flattering on my not toned size 12 hourglass

I think the 2 Me & Em dresses linked by @MrsPositivity1 are very flattering for a 12/14 hourglass and perfect for drinks and dinnner.

The Fold?

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/01/2025 12:04

Vintage Westwood?

Shetlands · 18/01/2025 12:18

Another vote here for Karen Millen dresses. They do structured tailoring really well.

Vintage Westwood?

I was going to say the same thing.

Vivienne was a wonderful designer for an hourglass shape.

Mountainash · 18/01/2025 17:03

Oh my! That dress is stunning! I am in love with it.
Definitely a knock out for many occasions

Also Me & Em. Silk. £276.50 in the sale - they have a 14 just now.

I like this because it's shaped, in a 'real' fabric, contemporary and yet doesn't look too try-hard.

You did ask which designer does structured dresses. One answer is Oscar de la Renta. Not much red, but stacks of structure and oomph.

This one costs my entire annual budget.

On the other end of the scale, Ralph Lauren's great for relaxed, 'just threw something on' outfits that happen to look better than average. Red dress, £169.

Bombshell HQ - you'd need to stalk Vinted and Ebay as she went out of business (but is coming back). They are designed specifically for an hourglass figure and have ruched side panels to make sure your waist comes in beautifully

I absolutely love Wheels and Dollbaby. It's an Australian brand but I've bought a few dresses on Ebay, Vestiaire and Vinted. Here's the link.
