How much swimwear do you take on holiday with you?

I am away for 10 days in the Caribbean in March, and I am wondering how much swimwear to bring with me, and it got me thinking… I wonder how much other women typically bring with them?

Ahem I dont ger Why anyone would ever need more than one bikini or swimsuit? I always only bring one and never had any problems. I wear it, take it off and let it dry and put it on later again. When I’m in a very warm palace the sun dried it quickly while I’m wearing it, and if in colder climates I don’t tend to hang around for ages in swimwear, I swim, sit a bit in the sun and get dressed and that’s it

Surely you are washing it though? That's like wearing one pair of pants all week.

Not really unless you bleach and disinfect your pants in chlorine/salt every time you wear them.

One is fine. Wash it out each evening. They dry quickly.

Lol did it occur to you not everyone is swimming in money? Some
of us can’t throw away cash at five bikinis. Politely, I’d be nice to have five bikinis but to me, it’s not something I’d prioritize. If spending on clothes I’d rather spend on clothes I’d get wear out more frequently. So the question isn’t how much swimwear do you NEED to bring, to which the reasonable answer is one piece, but rather how much do you typically bring, I guess because the OP is worried about not keeping up with standards of Caribbean travel

Swimwear lasts ages. I'm a surfer and one of my bikinis has been around 17 years

I take 2. 2 pairs of trunks for DH and kids too.

I am always finding new levels of filth and squalor in my life when I read Mumsnet. I'm amazed I've survived.....

I bring one for each day they take up so little space

Imnotarestaurant · 12/01/2025 23:50

For 10 days-4-5 sets.

I wouldn’t wear the same dress every night so don’t want wear the same swimming costume every day. Mine don’t cost a lot and it’s not like they take up any room in your suitcase.

@leftorrightnow

Yea it’s the way it is and of course you can choose to live in a world where you don’t question the rampant excessive consumption which is about to destroy the world for future generations.
Of course we all now understand you wear one set of clothing and rinse it out every night. Or are you extravagant and have two sets that you rotate to allow them to dry. 2 pairs of knickers are all you need right? And he pair of shoes.

Because of course unless you do this you would be super hypocritical to suggest people should wear one bikini everyday when that is their main outfit of the day

I do in fact own very little clothes. I do wear a clean set of pants every day though. I think there’s a difference between every day clothes you get wear out year round, and going out at purchasing swim wear specifically for a once in a lifetime holiday. But then that’s just me.

for all of those washing swim wear regularly or in the machine, that ruins them, here’s a guide for how to take care of swimwear (note, wash occasionally and do not machine wash) speedo.com.au/explore-swimwear-guides/blog-swimwear-care-guide.html

  1. Enough for me. I wash one and wear one.
mitogoshigg · 13/01/2025 09:03

Generally 2 bikinis, took a third for a 2 week trip

mitogoshigg · 13/01/2025 09:09

I should add that the hotel we've been to a couple of times recently in the canaries has the advantage that that the beach is clothing optional so saves getting swimwear wetGrin

That should have been 2! makes no sense otherwise.

ZenNudist · 13/01/2025 09:18

At least 1 sports swim suit as I swim for health plus 2 sunbathing swimsuits that show more flesh. Might take a second sporty one if waterpark dats included in holiday

2 minimum
3-4 fine

NoNoNona · 13/01/2025 11:13

3 bikinis and a light cotton cover up and/or a sarong or linen kaftan

User12385359 · 13/01/2025 11:27

I take 3 or 4 for a 10 day holiday.

If you happen to be going to St Lucia and do the volcanic mud bath, I’d recommend you take an extra cheap one to throw away afterwards, the stains and sulphur smell from the mud don’t come out!

Really good advice, thanks!!

I don't get why people take so few. They take up such little room and they cling to your bits so are akin to underwear. I always wash mine in the shower every night and I don't wear every one, but I like to have options. Also we had bad weather one year and it became quite difficult to dry things. If I had only had 1 I would have been buggered
