I’m overweight (have started exercising) but have a newborn so should be kinder to myself. But I still hate the way I look, I have no sense of style and need a capsule wardrobe that’s maternity pay budget and breastfeeding friendly. I just don’t know where to start. I had been so preoccupied with having a family, ttc for years and years, then with my older one and now baby, I l feel like I don’t even recognise myself anymore.

How many/what items in a capsule wardrobe? Where to shop in your early 40s? Even what trainers to wear? Some other basic staples. Please help me, I feel lost.

Where would you recommend for leggings? I’d get to wear them a little longer if I lost weight too so could try that whilst I’m still losing my pregnancy weight. Rather than jeans that fit now - but hopefully not for long! I’m not particularly happy with any of my body right now, but at least they’d feel comfy. Although my mum always warned against them as you don’t notice your weight creeping up.

My favourite ones are these from Sweaty Betty in black fade print:

I like that they come in muted prints, I have my eye on the black leopard and the ditsy star print for future but will have to bide my time as they are £££. I will say though that they are worth the money, I have yet to find a brand that compares…these are somehow both soft and comfy, and super structured. They keep everything in. No bagging, no looseness, no see through, no bobbling. I feel like they hold my butt up 😂. Plus they have pockets.

I also have a couple of pairs of these https://www.dopesnow.com/uk/womens-leggings
which are also good. The fabric doesn’t feel as supportive as the sweaty bettys but it’s still good, not see through, hasn’t bobbled or gone baggy. They also have pockets. And are much more affordable.

I wouldn’t worry about weight gain / loss while you are breastfeeding. Your whole body is out of whack. If you are the type who loses weight while bfing then it will happen…if like me your body cling onto every gram of fat it could until you stop bfding then it’s pointless trying to lose weight anyway. Mine dropped off once I had stopped. Enjoying the comfort of the leggings 😂😂

I am in the same boat as you and currently enjoying wearing to death what I like to call the sloppy ski look.

its basically leggings (high quality, flattering, some muted prints - no old black cotton / baggy at knees numbers) with a big sloppy jumper or hoodie (varies from oversize topshop ones to oversize nike ones, also have a couple from Dope ski), slouchy socks over the leggings, beanie hat, adidas gazelles or vivibarefoot trainers or chunky suede sorel ankle boots. Now it’s cold I also wear an oversize fleece from Dickies / passenger / topshop over the top. Thermal top underneath everything. relaxed look on the top, fitted on the bottoms. I’ve put weight on my top but still fairly happy with how my legs look and this look is flattering for me plus it’s super comfy for chasing after kids in.

no advice for a smarter / more polished outfit 😂😩

Are you me? 😂
this is all I wear at the minute too but love it! Agree about the good quality leggings, think it makes all the difference. I'm living in lovall winter leggins at the mo. Did buy a flare pair to mix things up a little 😂 also trying some different shades to change up the feeling of black leggings and a jumper. 😂
Got some great jumpers in the sales recently, Tesco, new look, h&m, jd for some sports branded over size hoodies. Also like Vinted once I know what size/style I am in a particular brand/shop.
Just find this look fits my life. Kids, dogs, soft play, toddler groups etc 😃 I feel quite put together too when adding jewellery, not going to win any fashion awards however I think it's quite a nice look when you aren't too sure what to wear and finding yourself again, nothing that's going to make you feel uncomfortable 😃 not sure what I am doing to wear come spring... 😂
