I usually get a chocolate brown tint to colour my hair but in recent years with stubborn greys coming in I've been adding a few highlights around my hairline then toning them down in order to blend the greys that come in.

However I'm not loving the block colour of the tint these days and I'm also finding the highlights go yellow very quickly.

Would a balayage be a better option? Can you even do balayage on brown hair? Would I still need a highlight round the hairline with a balayage?

I don't want to go all over lighter but I would like some dimension and a better blend of the greys as they come in

i was just reading up on this and technically i don’t think a balayage starts at your roots, so it wouldn’t necessarily replace the highlights. i think that’s why they say it doesn’t need to be topped up as often because it was never applied in an obvious line around the roots anyway 😁

i definitely wouldn’t do a full block color plus highlights. maybe consider babylights which are much less chunky highlights that maybe won’t leave as obvious of a root line and get them done in a different color that won’t go yellow? but most of the articles i read said you then needed to care for the color somehow so maybe you are just skipping this step as well.

and yes you can definitely get a balayage on brown hair!

hope this helps and hasn’t just made you more confused!
