Discontinued HG products and trying to find dupes for them

I have 3 HG products that I've never got over the disappointment of them being discontinued 😭 I've obviously found replacements for them all over the years but never anything I've loved as much 😢

  1. No7 cleansing oil. Was super cheap and lasted ages. Never irritated my sensitive skin and dissolved all make up like magic. The closest likeness I've found is the DHC cleansing oil but it's not as good.
  1. Lancôme miel-en-mousse foaming cleanser. Glorious stuff. Smelt amazing and had the most gorgeous texture, felt really luxurious. Wasn't cheap but lasted ages. Currently using Kate Somerville goat milk cleaner which is very nice in its own way but I still check Look Fantastic whenever I remember to see if it's come back 😂
  1. Lush yuzu and cocoa shower cream. Oh this smelt soooo good. Lathered up beautifully so you only needed a little bit and the smell latest all day. It apparently smelt like chocolate orange but I never got that from it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I will forever mourn the loss of these products!

Lol I thought this was a great idea for a post 😂😂

What does HG stand for? The only thing I can think of is holy grail- which makes sense in the context of the post (after some head scratching!) but I don't think is a widely accepted abbreviation, which might be why hardly anyone is opening the post.

The biggest beauty loss for me was in the in shower St Tropez tan- I have found a dupe, there's a Jergens one you can buy on Amazon, but even though it technically does the same job IT JUST ISN'T THE SAME.

Yes holy grail... lol I thought it would be more obvious than it was... my bad as the kids would say 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

It's not cheap but I bloody love the Facial Cleansing Oil by Bare Minerals. I've never tried any other so can't compare. It smells divine, is so oily, and then with a little water it turns creamy for washing off. I'll be sad when the bottle runs out but there is always Vinted to try and find it cheaper.

noobiedoobie · 08/01/2025 15:29

Don't know about the shower gel but it sounds divine! Someone needs to make that. I do quite like mango in body butter so maybe look for mango.

thinkfast · 08/01/2025 15:30

HG was a bit confusing.... I thought you meant the brand of cleaning products!

Sparkletastic · 08/01/2025 15:30

Has anyone ever found a dupe for the Clarins Pure Melt cleanser? Beauty Pie Japanfusion comes some way towards the consistency and action but I really miss having a delicious scent too.

Me too !

My much mourned item is Lipstick Queen lipstick in shade Medieval - was the perfect shade of red for me and a lovely lip balmy consistency. I have bought Clinique almost lipstick in black grape but it's too dark and just not the same 😔

OvaHere · 08/01/2025 15:59

For those lamenting the loss of cleansing oils and balms Tatcha does both and both are really nice for removing make up (the balm is my favourite) and gentle for sensitive skin. Expensive for small quantities is the downside.

This is lovely if you like the smell of mango... I'm on my 3rd tub in the last 6 months!

It's usually only about £4.00 on Amazon but seems to be out of stock on there at the moment.

@NormaLouiseBates I suggest you try Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil. It’s inexpensive, pleasant to use and easy to rinse off. Its main ingredient is grape seed oil.

sittingonhold · 09/01/2025 04:35

Stella by Stella McCartney perfume. I wore it for 15 years. Sad

Oh me too! I loved that perfume. Have you found a similar one to replace it?

I now use Diptique Eau Capitale. Still prefer Stella but this gives off similar vibes for me.

smooththecat · 09/01/2025 07:17

Second the Simple cleansing oil, best I’ve found and cheap.

Lush are assholes for discontinuing stuff, it’s almost not worth shopping there tbh. Charity pot is discontinued now, over the years most of the stuff I’ve liked has been discontinued.

Mine is Pat McGrath tinted balm in Flesh 3.

Mystery2345 · 09/01/2025 07:25

Lancome Aromatherapy or whatever they were called. 20y ago now, the purple one. Incredible scent!

Deathraystare · 09/01/2025 08:16

Mine go waaaaaay back. Grandma bought me a Coty Airspun cleanser with avocado which was very nice. Where I used to work in the 80s thy had a shop and I bought Dr Payot products - loved the golden rays cleanser. Nothing more up to date that has been discontinued (kept wanting to type disqualified for some reason!) well Mary Quant make up and Helena Rubinstein lipsticks. Perhaps a Bourjois lipstick in Bandit. Maybe a number of perfumes too but have not found a particular dupe for any of them.

I did find a dupe for a Mac lipstick but they brought it back anyway!!!

newyearnews · 09/01/2025 08:25

Joeur used to do a luminous tinted moisturiser which was perfect. When that was discontinued I found Chanel Les Beiges tinted moisturiser to be a pretty good replacement- then that was discontinued too!

Still on the hunt for a new sheer, luminous tinted moisturiser +/- SPF, guess there just isn't the market for them.

1apenny2apenny · 09/01/2025 08:43

For those missing perfumes try Perfume Parlour. They sell dupes and they are excellent, search goes to dupe for Stella McCartney 🙂

Thank you, I'll give that one a go when my current cleansing balm is finished!

Alexander McQueen Kingdom perfume. I loved this and it's no more. I'd love to find a dupe of it.

Beauty Pie lip crayons in Baby Bare and Rush In. The former is available but mostly OOS. The latter, my favourite shade, seems to be discontinued.

HungryForSnacks · 09/01/2025 20:03

Thanks @1apenny2apenny @AmateurNoun - I'll definitely look into these!

NormaLouise, why don't you try Nuxe brand. They have a foaming cleanser in a rose scent and Reve de miel cleansing gel. I like the brand.
