Builder gel

I’ve been to the nail salon this morning. I had my glittery Christmas gel manicure removed and a neutral gel polish applied to my natural nails. I like them tidy for work and I haven’t got time to do them myself every few days. The nail tech asked if I wanted builder gel, when I said no, he seemed a bit annoyed. I don’t even know what builder gel is, is it something I should be getting? My nails are as long as I would like them and they don’t snap or anything.

Why didn’t you ask your tech in the moment?

there’s lots online about builder gel. It’s become popular in the past year or so. It’s thicker/stronger than the regular gel base, and is used to strengthen nails.

It’s better for your nails as it doesn’t need to be soaked off at every appointment, they just do an infill and paint over the previous layers.

I can see the appeal but personally I’m not a fan - I like my nails very short, they’re strong and grow quickly so for me it would be pointless. It’s more for people looking to grow out and strengthen their nails
