Make up/skincare advice

Hello!

Over the last year or so I have really improved my skincare routine, and my skin itself is much better. However, I'm running into problems now with make up, specifically foundation/concealer.

Now my skin is more 'moist' and I'm using SPF, my foundation just sits on top. It looks OK when it's done but I look in the mirror later and it has separated- especially around my chin. I have red skin so I have to use foundation or something unfortunately as my skintone is so uneven. I leave it for about 10 minutes to soak in and I've experimented with the amount I'm using, but with the same results.

It's making me quite upset, which is ridiculous. I do go make up free when I WFH. I don't know what else do to? I don't use a primer, because when I tried one years ago the same happened. Can anyone offer any advise please? Thank you.

I assume you're rubbing in your skincare? If so, switch it up to lightly patting it in. Assuming the redness is down to sensitivity, it will also help with that as it's gentler on the skin. I also tap in makeup but that will probably works better with some consistensies than others.

Change your moisturiser until you find one that works with your foundation. Some moisturiser makes my foundation go awful it does this weird "pilling" thing. I have totally different results with other moisturiser just use the other one on make-up free days. I don't bother with a primer. They feel funny on my skin.
Alternatively try changing foundation? For me nothing on earth beats Estee Lauder Double Wear.

Thanks both, I'll give this a go.

I was just looking at the double wear! Might be time to upgrade my foundation.

Be mindful about putting double wear over an oily base. Oil and water don’t mix

Have you tried using something like the Erborian CC cream and/or colour corrector? I rarely wear foundation any more.

Try the Erborian CC Red Correct tinted moisturiser. It’s a game changer. I don’t need foundation any more, I just use this with a bit of concealer. If you focus on skincare so your skin is good, you need less full coverage, more a blurring effect I find.

I agree with the Erborian CC cream..... it's great stuff.

I've also had to experiment with day creams as some definitely do give that horrible pilling effect. I have been pretty loyal to No7 Day cream in the white tube which is very simple but seems to do the trick.

I also don't use my SPF under make-up as I couldn't find one that didn't make my skin feel greasy. I use the Garnier over makeup SPF spray instead.
