Help identifying gorgeous full-length camel coat pls

I saw a woman wearing an absolutely gorgeous coat a few days ago, I really wish I'd asked her where it was from but it was at the self-checkout and everyone was hurrying- plus it might have been a bit weird, really.

It was a full-length coat definitely not 3/4, and looked very expensive. The colour was a caramel or tan colour, not a paler shade of camel but warm.

It caught my eye that the material was not that kind of wool with a pile but more woven in texture. The material looked heavy, not like the thin coats which are around at the moment (which can also be nice). It was plain.

Does this ring any bells for anyone? Thanks 🙂

Get the Maxmara, it's an investment.

I will never own a coat like that and that's OK. I can just admire the craftsmanship and beauty of it 😍

If it looked legitimately expensive, I’d put money on it being a MaxMara. Though charity shops can be a goldmine for great quality camel coats!
People definitely wear their MaxMara coats to the supermarket, that’s what makes the coat good value, getting plenty of wear out of it!

The Toteme is such a gorgeous coat!

If you’ve seen Black Doves, Kiera Knightley wears a Max Mara coat but more of a toffee colour.

Ruthietuthie · 03/01/2025 00:53

This one has similar texture and is gorgeous in person: https://gb.maxmara.com/p-1016124306001-fungo-camel

Have been looking for a long camel coat for a little while and just bought one on Vinted. 100% wool, belted, from Hobbs. Looks lovely and my offer was accepted (and cost covered by having sold some things recently on Vinted). Inspired by this thread!!! Fingers crossed.

Kudos to @Britpopbaby for very probably calling it in the very first post.

That sounds lovely, @Onthetubetoday, post a photo if you are happy with it when it's arrived.

@coatwoat my daughter had a vivienne westwood one in black. also belted.

I have one from Mango like this that I bought 2 years ago. It wasn't particularly expensive but people often stop me and ask me where it's from. Just checked and it's 44% polyester and 51% wool.

Angelofmycoins · 03/01/2025 11:34

Max mara has a good outlet online called intrend
I've got some lovely quality things feom there- they might have the max mara label cut out on some but they are excellent

One coat has alpaca it's amazing and the warmest I've ever had.

Also they do camelhair, literally from a 🐫.
Expensive but amaxing

EcruCardigan · 03/01/2025 11:49

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/01/2025 12:03

I saw a very similar one to the Nobody's Child one in Primark. It was 50% wool and £60. Hope picture attaches.

My Jaeger one is like that. I got it BNWT in a charity shop for £25 but they are often on Brand Alley too.

CakeRattleandRoll · 03/01/2025 14:51

Noticed that neither the Maxmara nor the Toteme coats are lined, unlike the Banana Republic one which is fully lined. For those sort of prices, I would expect a fully lined coat, but maybe that's just me?

Ruthietuthie · 03/01/2025 15:55

@CakeRattleandRoll, the Maxmara coat is unlined because it is double-faced wool. This kind of fabric is never meant to be lined and, because of the quality of the wool used, will be far warmer than the Banana Republic coat, with its viscose lining. One of the Maxmara coats is made from alpaca wool, for example, which is naturally three times warmer than sheep wool. The strand length is also longer, making the material more resilient. Even in the photographs, the Banana Republic coat looks shabby and as if it is losing its shape. The Maxmara coats, however, could be worn for decades and still look beautiful. There really isn't any comparison.

I've got a beautiful MM 100% cashmere coat. Was about £2k 20 years ago. It's not lined but it's double faced cashmere and that is rarely lined. It's so so soft and so warm and hangs better than any other coat I own

Not everything needs to be lined. Plenty of top quality beautiful clothing isn't

fantastiq · 03/01/2025 17:46

The coat could be a few years old. I wouldn't assume its still available anyway...

Onthetubetoday · 03/01/2025 18:32

Some of the Max Mara coats are lined; take a look on Vinted.

Mrsredlipstick · 03/01/2025 18:39

Most of my coats are max mara. Some twenty years old. Go on ebay.

The texture could be a thing called 'double faced'. Max mara use this fabric and jaegar.

FaeryQueen · 03/01/2025 22:19

My vintage Jaegar has that texture and look. Worth a look on Vinted as the current Jaegar offerings are nowhere near as good

bendmeoverbackwards · 04/01/2025 00:10

Love the colour of that one @katmunchkin
