Am I crazy for considering this coat?

Hello!

I have this Uniqlo coat in green which I bought last year. I love it and use it everyday. I've had my eye on this light grey coat for a while, it's not gone down in the sale annoyingly but I can get £10 off with a voucher which brings it to £150.00 which is still a lot

I tried it on today and really liked it, I asked the Uniqlo assistant and they warned me about me worrying about it getting dirty which has now made me doubt whether I should get if 😬 She did have a point, it's a lot to pay if I'm constantly worried.

Am I over thinking it?! x

The first thing I thought was getting stains on it! Sitting on a bench, make-up stains around the neckline, spilling something on the front! 😬
How easy is it to wash? In a machine or does it need dry cleaning? If you love it, you might find it gets even cheaper in the Jan sales.

how easy is it to get cleaned? If you are reluctant to use it and it stays in your wardrobe then I would say give it a miss.

If it’s washable go for it, if not, don’t,

Doggymummar · 30/12/2024 15:33

I am too clumsy for anything that colour but if it bungs in the machine. Why not.

Cherryblossom200 · 30/12/2024 15:34

Thank you 🙏 You are helping me to make my decision 🤣🤣 I'm sticking with my green coat!

You can only hand wash it 😬 Although my friend has the same coat and she washes it with no issues.

It might depend what you'd wear it for. I've got a pale grey cloth coat, I don't wear it if I'm likely to get mucky.

I bought a gorgeous equally impractical cream puffa jacket in TKMaxx last year and absolutely love it but yes, it does get dirty (& therefore loos shit) very quickly. I was never going to get it dry cleaned more than once or twice year so decided to ignore the label and bunged it in the washing machine with a tennis ball on a cool low spin wash and it's been absolutely fine. Would definitely buy it again as I love it but I spent a lot less than £150 so was willing to risk it getting ruined in the wash.

Allatonce2024 · 30/12/2024 15:42

Nahh, it's not worth the cost for outdoor wear. You wouldn't be able to sit on a train/bus/tube, lean against a wall, brush past anything, etc

Cherryblossom200 · 30/12/2024 15:54

I think I'm going to wait and hope it goes down in the sale a bit more. If I can get it for £100 then I would buy it and take the risk! x

Just to add, I've handwashed a coat in a bath one, otherwise, a very gentle wash might work too. PITA having to wash it often though.

OneBadKitty · 30/12/2024 16:05

I have that coat in light cream and it washes easily. I don't find it attracts stains that easily- the surface is water resistant so it tends to repel a lot of stains. The only annoying thing is it shows foundation marks on the collar, but all coats get this of you wear makeup regardless of the colour of them- black ones are the worst! I wear with a snood to help keep the collar cleaner longer.

Cherryblossom200 · 30/12/2024 16:44

One bad kitty, ok thanks for letting me know. Then that changes things again for me 🤣 I bought a cashmere scarf today which would protect the collar. Do you wash it on a 30 degree setting? x

Nope! Stylish, yes but not practical at all, that’s a wear it a few times then it will look like you pulled it out the garbage coat!

Woid · 30/12/2024 17:09

Definitely wouldn't want to be handwashing every time it came into contact with anything!

MrsPeregrine · 30/12/2024 17:11

Can’t you just send it to the dry cleaners once a year?

Cherryblossom200 · 30/12/2024 17:49

I think you can machine wash it so should be ok. But I'm going to have a think about it! x

I stick it it on a 40 degree quick wash with a spray of stain remover around the neck and then tumble dry- comes out perfect- had it about 4 years now and looks like new- wash about twice each winter.
