Backpack for work

Dreamerinme · 26/12/2024 19:57

I’m looking for a new backpack for work and was hoping I might find something in the sales.

It needs to be waterproof, have zip opening, big enough for daily essentials plus lunch and water bottle. Must have decent shoulder straps rather than thin strips which I’ve found uncomfortable before.

I’d like leather but realise that for up to £50 I won’t get that, but I’d like it to look smartish, as opposed to a canvas gym bag. A neutral colour like black, tan or brown.

Has anyone got anything similar? I realise I’m looking for a practical item that hopefully looks nice enough, rather than a high fashion item!

I've got this one for work, it is £58 but might be some sales coming up.

How can a plastic / pleather bag be nearly £60?!

Helpful post.

@LegoLady95 genuine question it looks like it's from new look ( at best)
Crappy material which is destined for landfill, no longevity.

I bought mine in a sale 2 years ago. I use it to cycle to work in all weathers, 30 mins each way. It fits everything I need including laptop, lunch, water bottle and change of clothes. It still looks brand new. Why the hate?

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 21:21

@LegoLady95 I was genuinely surprised by the price point of the bag in my opinion it looks cheap like something from the New Look or Primark
"why the hate" ? 😂
Just because you like it, doesn't mean I should, and just because I don't and think it's looks cheap didn't mean you should care either.
You clearly liked it enough to buy it, why are you so bothered that I don't like it.

LegoLady95 · 26/12/2024 21:28

@Hskatkat this is boring.

I was trying to add a helpful reply.

I couldn't care less what anybody else likes.

The OP was asking for something that would tick the boxes, and this does. She doesn't have to like it or buy it.

I dont understand why you posted.

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 21:30

@LegoLady95 you @ me originally.
I didn't include you, I passed a comment on a forum being surprised by a tacky cheap looking bag would cost that much.

LegoLady95 · 26/12/2024 21:32

Right

DawnAnn · 26/12/2024 21:41

I have this one from Accessorize that I use for work (laptop, water bottle, etc all fit in nicely. It is good quality. I have also used mine for hand luggage on flights. A friend at work bought the black one which looks really nice too. www.accessorize.com/uk/pocket-top-handle-backpack-6900389700.html

You really didn't need to comment at all though did you! Just scroll along. OP can decide if they like it or not. The poster was just trying to be helpful.

Dancingfairydreams · 26/12/2024 21:43

Look at Roka, they are doing a fab lucky dip at the mo too!

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 21:49

So I'm not allowed to comment now ok 😬😂
In my opinion that bag didn't tick what the op was looking for, not sure I needed a "telling off" but ok..... The Amazon bag is also awful .

NunyaBeeswax · 26/12/2024 21:51

£60 is fuck all for a back pack these days.
You can barely get an entry level bag for under £100.
Decent brands will run you £££s and proper high end could get up to 1000s

That £58 bag looks decent for the price. A step up from Amazon / temu tat for a similar price point.

Now it's no good recommending Aer, Bellroy, Alpaka, Gomatic, GoRuck, Troubadour because they're not what OP is looking for and, although they'll be tough, feature heavy and made of decent fabric like Xpac or Cordura etc, they'll be out of the budget by a country mile.

Instead, OP, look at bags from Osprey, TomToc, Rains... Possibly also Chrome Industries.
You could look at Mous as well, but I think they're more than your budget but a sale might drop some below your ceiling.
Uniqlo might be a thought too. But again, your budget is tight.

There could be more choice in the used markets.

I got a lovely one from Parfois. Not leather but had leather accents and looks fairly smart. I was concerned the straps might be too thin but they are comfortable.

tunainatin · 26/12/2024 21:57

Very good price too, some are so expensive!

Runnyyolkplease · 26/12/2024 21:58

I have the Haglofs Corker bag - good straps, structured so holds its shape, roomy pockets. I usually go through bags very quickly but had this a while and it looks brand new.

NunyaBeeswax · 26/12/2024 22:07

That's a pretty bag for that money.
I really like it a lot.

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 22:10

@tunainatin that's nice, looks great I've not heard of them before

Neither had I.
Some of the rest of the site looks ok as well.
(What's the online version of Window Shopping? 😄)

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 22:30

@NunyaBeeswax you googling earrings too? 😀🤢

Yep.

Instead of doom scrolling Twitter or other awful places, I'm spending way too much time on here and on websites full of beautiful things that I'll never buy... Then trying to find cheap knock offs that I might buy. 🤪🤣

That's a lovely bag, might get it in black myself. And it's a reasonable price for it too!
