Please help me replace this lovely Christmas present

DB bought me a lovely jumper for Christmas but hadn't noticed that it contained wool, which I can't wear.
I'm really struggling to find anything like it though and shorter jumpers can look odd on me as I'm tall.
Budget up to £100. Must be wool-free.
I feel like I've tried everywhere but I can't have done surely. Any help really appreciated.

Is Merino wool ok? https://www.blarney.com/irish-shop/lily-aran-wool-sweater-in-raspberry-melange/

ThatAgileLimeCat · 26/12/2024 11:57

Thanks for helping. It can't have any wool I'm afraid, as I'm vegan.
So far I've tried superdry, Selfridge's, John lewis, next, sezane, cotton traders, Roman, Joe browns (they have a lovely one that is out of stock 😭), Harvey Nics, M and S.
Potential contender in French Connection.
Doesn't have to be exactly the same- I just really loved the shade of pink and the chunkiness. The Roman one above is closest so far to the original.
It's the second year running that I've struggled to find something so it's clearly a me problem.

ASOS have absolutely hundreds of cable knit sweaters - might be worth a browse.

Doggymummar · 26/12/2024 12:00

Can't you return it to Super dry and get something else?

timenowplease · 26/12/2024 12:30

Vegans don't wear wool? That's news to me.

You know the sheep doesn't die, right?

It's incredibly cruel to not shear sheep, so I don't get this either.

Yes but sheep in the wild don’t need to be sheared they have their own natural way around this. We as humans have domesticated sheep in such a way that we shear them which then means they over produce wool and so we have to shear them, and so on goes the cycle.

FictionalCharacter · 26/12/2024 12:40

SunriseCat · 26/12/2024 12:33

🤦🏻‍♀️

Indeed.
All products from farmed animals are part of an industry that vegans don't want to support.
And indeed, sheep aren't slaughtered to produce wool - vegans aren't stupid - but all farmed animals are destined for the slaughterhouse.

Plastic is so much more environmentally friendly too 😵‍💫

It’s only incredibly cruel because humans made it that way. As I said above sheep in the wild have their own natural ways of getting rid of their wool. I know this and I’m not even vegan.

Well wool is a by product of the meat industry so the sheep is killed, and buying wool is a way to fund that. The sheep you see in fields are not “natural” animals- the wild ancestors of farmed sheep, obviously, did not need shearing. Vegans would argue we no longer need to breed animals that have to go through a usually stressful and sometimes painful shearing process every year (until they’re taken to slaughter).

Overthebow · 26/12/2024 12:54

What can vegans wear then apart from pure cotton? No wool, silk, leather, presumably no polyester or other based for the environment products.

CountTo10 · 26/12/2024 12:55

I love this but can't find what it's made of although I would imagine if it were natural fibres it's something they would advertise?

Hskatkat · 26/12/2024 13:04

Cotton is also terrible for the environment, the amount of pesticides and water used ( feel free to Google). At this rate the op is going to be wearing recycled cola bottles & pleather/plastic shoes & bags, Which in itself is also crappy to wear and for the environment.

What clothes do you wear now?

ParisGellerFTW · 26/12/2024 13:23

I'd have a look at Wrap, Poetry or Free People (but read the reviews as quality can vary) if it's a cotton cable knit you're after

It’s not only about the killing of animals it’s about the exploitation of animals and use of their resources. Agreed sheep’s need to be sheared but often it’s an industry that mistreats animals so being vegan encompasses those values.

You can get vegan leather which is some kind of synthetic material. I don’t know much about it though!

Itsaswelltime · 26/12/2024 13:27

Similar styles in cashmere in places like Uniqlo and probably John Lewis or Selfridges.

SnoopysHoose · 26/12/2024 13:28

Not all sheep are sheared then heading to slaughter, there are ppl who keep sheep purely for wool production and they live a natural life.
