Is there such a thing as a decent moisturiser that won’t clog up my pores/will still let my skin breathe?

I’m having the horrible issue at the moment that my skin gets so dry in the winter, but moisturiser makes me feel too oily in places on my face, to the point where I’m even getting tiny spots!! It’s such an annoying combination of problems 😂

Elemis is my fave but I’m not sure what from there would fit the bit? And open to other brands but I wouldn’t go beyond the price point of Elemis.

when I was younger I used to swear by Liz Earle Light, now Im older I need heavy duty and prefer serums

Serums are as light as a feather but pack a punch

Im more budget end then Elemis nowadays and Im finding that Avon Anew is really suiting my skin, I use both the serum and the day cream

Letsgetfitsycal · 21/12/2024 06:43

Thank you! Having looked at Elemis’ light option, I would definitely prefer to spend less.

Embryolisse is an inexpensive brand that make a light moisturiser. Light Hydra Cream. Or there might be others in the range you prefer.

Its not just about the moisturiser, its about the whole routine, really you need to post the whole routine so people can advise, it could be your serum or cleanser causing the issue.

I’m a bit shit at it really, just balm cleanser, moisturise everyday, acid peel once a week, and exfoliate when I remember which isn’t often!

I'm finding the Soap and Glory Speed Plump to be very moisturising but light. I do exfoliate a fair bit though and I have skin that takes to anything.

That's not so bad really? Do you use a night cream?

I honestly find cheap moisturisers just as good (if not better) than the expensive ones. I use Simple light moisturiser in the morning, and M&S Formula night cream every single night after cleansing. In winter if I notice dryness I add a facial oil under the Simple in the morning, or under Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask. Biossance squalane and vitamin C rose oil is my favourite.

Do you use hyaluronic acid serum? (The Ordinary, for example, do a great one). If you apply it to damp skin (for me, straight after showering in the morning), it absorbs 100 X its own molecular weight in water and helps boost skin’s plumpness. When it has absorbed (it is totally non greasy, so apply everywhere including lips and eyelids etc), you can then apply moisturiser (eg Moisturising Factors by The Ordinary) for a double boost effect. Hope this helps!

standardduck · 21/12/2024 20:18

I'd try La roche posay, toleraine is a good option if you have sensitive skin.

EwwSprouts · 21/12/2024 20:50

Liz Earle revitalise and glow. I was using a marine collagen moisturiser and that gave me clogged pores. Also use Erth Skin pink nectar without issue.

SuperStarAnise · 21/12/2024 20:57

Try a water/ gel based moisturizer, Murad do a good one.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 21/12/2024 21:25

For really dry skin I cannot recommend The Ordinary Aloe 2% + NAG 2% Solution highly enough. It was suggested on here for me and within a week of applying morning and night my previously very dry, sometimes sore feeling, flaky skin was transformed.

Istilldontlikeolives · 21/12/2024 21:27

I like Caudalie sorbet (in a pink tube) for moisture, doesn’t feel like I have anything on, doesn’t clog pores.

TempuraCustard · 21/12/2024 22:31

Try a gel moisturiser

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 21/12/2024 22:43

I have similar skin OP and usually go for cheaper moisturisers as I find them lighter, agree with PP that gel ones are good.

La Roche posay and eucerin do good mid priced options, both available in boots

Wanting sun protection complicates things for me and these both have high SPF without being too heavy on my skin

Have been using this recently which I got in a beauty box. It's really lovely but I'm a bit shocked at the cost of it

You need products that are non-comedogenic.

I know La Roche Posay is, not sure about other brands

Letsgetfitsycal · 22/12/2024 01:02

This is so helpful thank you ladies!! Might see if I can get hold of some samples or minis to test a few of these suggestions
