New thread as we enter the final week before Christmas.

Previous thread is here:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5220847-general-waifs-and-strays-beauty-advent-calendar-opening-thread-2024?page=1

This is a continuation of the thread for those opening Beauty Advent Calendars not covered by specific calendar opening threads (though also happy for contents of those to be shared here too).

As usual, many of us would really appreciate it if spoilers are not posted before 7am on the relevant day. Please also avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance.

Posting pictures of contents is also always much appreciated.

Thanks everyone! I used to thank the posts but since MN changed to emoji reactions I’ve stopped doing that and I’ve also turned off my notifications for reactions (you can do this in settings). I probably won’t type “thank you” everyday so just to say I am grateful for everyone taking the time to share! Thank you Xmas Grin

IlovePond · 19/12/2024 15:07

I don’t like these new emojis either, @BakeOffRewatch - the clapping emoji to me means sarcasm! (My DSis uses it all the time when she’s being mean/sarky and it drives me bonkers!)

Thanks to @AprilLady for this and all the other threads and to all for sharing!

I love those earrings @psuedocream3

Hope you feel better soon @pinkchampagne1

pinkchampagne1 · 19/12/2024 15:12

Thank you 🙂

BakeOffRewatch · 19/12/2024 15:19

Yes I’ve been wondering if it’s a double bluff, we’ll all give up on the reactions and MN becomes busier with posts @IlovePond

IlovePond · 19/12/2024 15:24

😹😹@BakeOffRewatch -

Oh dear. I use the clapping reaction on LinkedIn all the time to indicate well done or congrats. I've a load of students who just graduated and I've been using that on their posts.

IlovePond · 19/12/2024 16:21

@OchonAgusOchonOh - you’re not wrong - unfortunately it means both! I’ve been looking it up this pm and I think today’s bright young things are far more likely to use it as face value ‘well done/congrats’ without any double meaning, whilst older people, (like sarky DSis will mean it as in ‘well done…sarky meaning😹)

What it doesn’t mean, as far as I can gather is ‘Thanks’.

I want my ‘Thanks’ button back - I am unreasonably upset about it😹

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/12/2024 16:26

That's good @IlovePond So hopefully I haven't offended them 😁

Is the thumbs up reaction not thanks? I use it for that for emails that don't really warrant a reply.

IlovePond · 19/12/2024 16:38

@OchonAgusOchonOh - someone - maybe on another thread - said thumbs up on this site means ‘agree’ 🙀- but I can’t see a meaning until after I use it. I’ll use it in your post to see a definition! Thanks

Edited to say: MN say 👍 means agree🙈

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/12/2024 16:40

Ah well, at least I'm not instilling anyone using it then.

Insulting, not instilling

IlovePond · 19/12/2024 16:52

Practising my emoji uses! Will check out my calendar doors later. Quite jealous of the Harrods serum and of @psuedocream3 ’s earrings today!

I hope you feel better now @pinkchampagne1

Asos today was a neom candle - bedtime apparently (not sure how safe that is!) but it smells nice, and I'm relieved to have finally opened the box thats been smelling so strongly all this time and it's not something leaking!! 😂

IlovePond · 19/12/2024 18:12

Mmm- I had remembered the Shiseido lipstick as full size, but no - it’s one of those small thin ones - the sort that don’t go on my lips properly - there’s about an inch of product in a thin stick. Grrh!

Old Rituals is a 100ml body cream - I had hoped for a shower cream, but am assuming this is an addition to my already huge body lotion collection. I like the Hannah range, though.

Sorry to jump onto your thread but in case anyone bought (via Vinted/Ebay as I often do!) the Tonka candle from Liberty Advent, we've just had an email to say dispose of them as a small number of customers have said they might burn dangerously.
Full disclosure here -I actually used mine immediately after opening day 3 and it was fine but if you've bought one elsewhere (or haven't joined the Liberty thread!) then please be aware of this.

paristotokyo · 19/12/2024 18:49

@nearly61 thanks I bought one off Vinted and did it's only been lit once but it burned quite high

Good point @nearly61 ! And people would give them away as well

Some gorgeous treats today!

Day 19 Cult Beauty:

Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder Travel Size 2g

I don't use powder as my skin is quite dry, so not sure will use this. Feels a bit underwhelming after a few days of drawers with lots in

Bird and Blend Tea:

Apple Strudel - 'comforting apple and cinnamon treat'. Sounds lovely, although ingredients say rooibos again.

Day 20:

SpaceNK: Yet another really good day, a full size Drunk Elephant Lalo whipped cream moisturiser.

Harrods: Full size Charlotte Tilbury lipliner in shade Pillow Talk. More than a little underwhelming, and I don’t find Pillow Talk that good a lip colour for me. A real contrast to yesterday’s SpaceNK make up drawer!

Harrods Day 20 - Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Pillow Talk.

I rarely use lipliner/lipstick so will give this one away. It's a nice, fairly neutral shade.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 20/12/2024 07:44

Day 20 Jo Malone - Orange Bitters candle.

This is bigger than the other candles we've had so far. It smells lovely, can't wait to try it out!

Stoic123 · 20/12/2024 07:44

@AprilLady - yes, the makeup in Harrods has been generally underwhelming.

AprilLady · 20/12/2024 07:45

In other news, I’ve finally got round to using the Paco Rabanne “colourshot” eyeshadow cream from last year’s Selfridge advent, and it is amazing. I’ve used other liquid eyeshadows - Lisa Eldridge, Pat McGrath, CT etc and they always look good straight after I put them on, but fade away quite quickly. This one goes on easily and stays perfect for hours.

Definitely going to be investigating other colour options.

Today's Lookfantstic contained a Grown Alchemist exfoliant. I had received this earlier in the ASOS calendar so will be passing one on to my dh.

ASOS was a beautyworks argan oil hair mask.
