Choose my ankle boots!

I've ordered these from M&S and these from Moda in Pelle. I can only keep one pair, and can't decide! They're both lovely, both comfortable. MIPs are 'smarter' and M&S 'clumpier' but they both fit the bill.

I much prefer the shape of the laced ones.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 18/12/2024 01:23

I would prefer the laced ones if they didn't have zips. I don't like "lace up" boots which aren't really lace up where the laces are non- functional, apart from possibly tightening or loosening the fit.

The other boots have zips but the zips are obviously functional and necessary. So the Moda in Pelle.

Garlicwest · 18/12/2024 01:26

Yeah, the lace-ups are more bovver-style, innit 😆 I've already got pointy black ankle boots (with heels) and shoes (ditto) ... but also have clumpy black trainers & loafers, so I'm not in a position to choose either on the basis of need. I've stoically denied myself a sequin top: this was my other itch and I must scratch!

Do you have any others you like?
Personally I don't 'get' zip up boots that look like lace up boots.
The others remind me of Joules boots
What gap do they fill ? (Poorly worded, sorry) I meant are they just chuck on every day boots?

Garlicwest · 18/12/2024 01:31

D'you know, @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle, I would have said exactly the same about non-functional zips until three years ago. My feet suddenly became old-woman feet with multiple sources of pain, and I felt forced to succumb to the practicalities of easy opening + adjustable fit. It's no accident that both of these have both features.

I now own ONE pair of those weird trainers with laces & zips, but I keep 'em for very sore days!

On looking at the website the outer zip and the buckles on the M in P boots are decorative, rather than functional, so that detracts as well.

My own preference would be fully functional lace up boots, with no zips; or Chelsea boots with elastic sides and no zips, but of these the M in P are less "fake" looking than the M and S.

Hskatkat · 18/12/2024 01:43

Similar idea ( side zip) but some what neater shape (in my opinion). You can buy lace up blundstone boots which are remarkably comfortable might be worth a look?
I could be miles off and you might hate my suggestion & that's all good

Oh, @Hskatkat, those are a bit of a find at Jones! Their shoes always fit me.

So I've ordered them, too 😳 I'd better not do any more, or I shan't be able to afford all the return fees!

Much prefer the laced ones and love a side zip so I do t have to pfaff around with laces

Garlicwest · 18/12/2024 02:35

I'm also trying these Moda in Pelle ones. I think the hiking-boot laces are a fake too far, but they're easily changed.

And am going to bed before I max out every card and turn my bedroom into a shoe shop. Thank you for all the feedback so far 🙂

Panama Jack boots are really nice quality, they are comfortable from first wear. They are more expensive and you might not like them, you seem to like a detail & I prefer simple
Pavers can be worth a look (45 day returns & good customer service) I find a lot of the shoes / boots they sell are not my thing but they often have some great finds too

Garlicwest · 18/12/2024 17:38

Oooh, tricky, @Hskatkat! Panama Jack is indeed great, but out of my price range for this. Pavers had some that I'd probably have gone for due to the reduced prices ... if I hadn't already seen so many boots I like more!

Sometimes - rarely - you see the perfect item at an achievable price. The rest of the time it's a compromise. Shame, but there it is.

@Garlicwest I agree totally, I only discovered Panama Jack this year , I do think they are expensive, but just thought I'd add the name in case you hadn't heard of them. I found a pair of boots I loved in Pavers ticked all the boxes for me , but I couldn't get them on. ( Two lots of surgery & maybe more coming) I think I've tried 9/10 lots of boots this year and kept none. Hope you find some that work for you

Garlicwest · 18/12/2024 18:28

Oof, I'm sorry about your feet, Hskatkat Flowers

I like the M&S ones but I like zips with laces, I have an high instep so often need a zip

BellissimoGecko · 18/12/2024 18:55

The strappy ones. Much classier.

RuthW · 18/12/2024 19:52

I don't like the lace up ones

rosemole · 18/12/2024 20:00

Have you decided OP?

The ones from John Lewis have just arrived at the pickup point - M&S don't think they're going to deliver until after Christmas now 😭 and the pair from Jones is "on its way". So, no!

I like the Moda in Pelle ones and they're a bit different from bog standard boots.

Garlicwest · 20/12/2024 22:02

Which ones, @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - the lace-ups or the ones in the OP?

I have the buckle ones and I really don't like how they look on. They are really wide and flap around.i wear them for dog walking now. I should have returned them but didn't get around to it.

Just looked inside and mine are actually Dune as the make so slightly different

Garlicwest · 25/12/2024 00:51

It's annoying when OP's don't conclude their threads - but it's not good news, I'm afraid. I felt the buckled M in P boots looked too 'chic' for my purpose, but the Marks ones looked too 'skinhead'. They're close-fitting round the ankle which, with the massive bouffy foot, works great as a look. I wore that exact look at the age of 17 and no longer think it rebellious ("Do you have to wear such ugly boots?")

The Jones ones fit beautifully but looked a bit meh and showed signs of flapping ankles. I like the M in P faux hiking boots more than I expected but they sent the wrong bloody size!

So I'll be wearing some other shoes over Christmas, and resuming boot shopping afterwards. Have a lovely couple of days, S&B! 🎄

Pavers? Good customer service 45 day returns
(I must really like pavers! I forgot if already suggested it !)
