How do I get rid of belly fat?

ChrissyBells · 10/12/2024 22:09

I've lost 110lbs and am now 9st9lbs

I know some of it is skin and I cannot do anything about that but inside the belly skin I have a lot of fat.

I don't want to lose anymore weight.

My original goal was 11st7lbs but my belly was still huge, so I kept going, trying to shrink it. But it was still big however much I lost

I am going to lose 2 more lbs to be 9 and a half stone but I have to stop there, I cannot go lower.

But my belly is still big in comparison to everywhere else from the side!

Is there anything I can do?

Images of my waist in size 12 jeans from front and side for comparison!

I can totally fathom it, it's just that there's unfortunately no alternative that'll be very effective.

But I don't want the lose skin gone

I just want to target a bit more of the fat underneath so my stomach looks better in clothes

I don't care about the skin, it's just the reality of my journey

I don't care about how I look naked. I don't need a tummy tuck because it wouldn't make a difference to me
I'm happy with shapewear

I dont think it will ever go away OP, but you could def improve it.
Im very similar to you (5'5, lost over 100Ibs, now 9 and a half stone and still have a wobbly fat apron and cant afford a tummy tuck).
Exercise really helps. I do weights at home 3 times a week and pilates twice a week, also cardio with an exercise bike or mini stepper five times a week).
It really improves your posture and the muscles underneath help pull in the wobbly bits somewhat.
Then its just a matter of dressing around your problem areas, trying to keep things sucked in or getting some decent support underwear.

Its just life though....very few of us who lose over a 100Ibs get away with no wobbles or lumpy bits!
(but isnt it fantastic to be so much healthier though!?😉).

Well done on the weight loss @ChrissyBells - you are doing amazingly well.

Others have flagged strength work and Pilates and I'd echo these. Check out Pilates for abs on you tube and you'll get an idea. Build in 45 mins a few times a week. With both strength and Pilates, form is important.

Well done again!

I know you said you don’t want to lose any more weight but often to drop belly fat, that’s the only way (without surgery). When you lose body fat, the stomach is often the last area to lose from on lots of women so it’s just a case of keeping dropping body fat and your stomach will go.

Unfortunately, you can’t control which areas of your body lose fat first.

If you don’t want your arms and legs to look thin then weight lifting will build muscle.

For me, I have to get to a very low body weight for my stomach to lose fat and be flat. I do weight lifting and eat a lot of protein so my arms and legs are quite muscular and don’t look thin at all. It also means you can eat more calories while losing fat/maintaining body weight.

Building glutes will also give the illusion of a smaller waist/stomach.

I appreciate you sticking up the cosmetic surgeons images, however if it makes you feel any better the 'after' image has altered so many things like skin tone and colour and is a filtered representative of the results, no way they could actually achieve that without lots of outside the knicker line scars.

It would be more helpful if they showed you real photographs of surgery they have performed on real people (no filters or lighting/posture tricks) - which they may have done when you were in the appointment of course. But does make me feel a bit suspicious of their sales technique...

I would say certain exercises concentrating on your core, low abdomen, and posture will help but ultimately, a cosmetic procedure is the only way to get rid of it completely.

Not true. I do have a very long scar but it's very very low and can't be seen in bikini or underwear.

If you want a good, accessible and free home workout then I recommend couch2fitness. Same concept as couch25k but instead of running it's 3 workouts a week, 1x cardio, 1x glutes and 1x core. Starts easier and gets harder as you build muscle and stamina over a 9week period. They have several instructors in each video showing different variations of each exercise to account for physical mobility issues and different fitness levels.

They have a YouTube channel too with all the playlists and do other programmes like a Bollywood dance one and samba and family workouts with kids.

I am crap at doing exercise and really got into this, just set up in my living room, often with my daughter joining in (or standing at the side trying not to laugh, the little sod).

Did you look like the before photo the op has posted? And do you now look like the after photo? What age/skin type are you because that's a factor too.
I'm not saying cosmetic surgery results can't exceptional, but they can also be terrible and most people's results sit somewhere in-between those two extremes.

I don't believe a decent surgeon who sell surgery on the back of some photoshopped images myself, but that's just my view, I am perfectly fine for others to have a different view.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 13/12/2024 14:40

I mean, obviously not exactly but it's a good illustration of the difference.

I went from 16 stone to 11 stone as of today. They removed 5 pounds of skin and fat, and I got lipo on my waist. Obviously I did the rest in terms of weight loss.

Now - I do still have a rounded belly, because I'm a woman! But that's ok. It doesn't hang halfway down my thighs, it's there but it's all tight.

Yes, 4 children.
I know it's to be expected but it's frustrating!

Wonder if it's DR. Where the muscles have separated but not gone back. Forgotten what it's called but that's quite common.
