How do I get rid of belly fat?

ChrissyBells · 10/12/2024 22:09

I've lost 110lbs and am now 9st9lbs

I know some of it is skin and I cannot do anything about that but inside the belly skin I have a lot of fat.

I don't want to lose anymore weight.

My original goal was 11st7lbs but my belly was still huge, so I kept going, trying to shrink it. But it was still big however much I lost

I am going to lose 2 more lbs to be 9 and a half stone but I have to stop there, I cannot go lower.

But my belly is still big in comparison to everywhere else from the side!

Is there anything I can do?

Images of my waist in size 12 jeans from front and side for comparison!

I can't see a personal trainer or go to the gym.

I believe there are great youtube videos you can follow at home.

I have seen Caroline Girvan recommended on mn for weight training.

Wonder if others have any other recommendations for novices to weight training.

This is my plan, to try and sort myself out at home.

I have access to weights

If you have the pelvic tilt your not going to fix that yourself.

It really needs someone who knows what they are doing. It’s not an excercise or effort thing. It really is an awareness thing of ‘your dropping that hip’, ‘your spines gone into neutral/positive/ negative’ and being corrected by them. It’s literally cm’s. There’s no way you can do that to yourself.

When I had mine corrected I had to stop all other exercise for 6 months. I’m assuming you have an anterior tilt. That means your front thighs and lower back are super tight/ shortened and that’s what’s pulling the pelvis. In a paradoxical way you need to do less exercise to allow those to slack temporarily whilst trying to do super targeted light work to wake up the glutes/ abdominals rectus (corset) which then enables you to tilt it back.

Once it’s titled back you can then start doing carefully exercise to solidify the whole thing and stabilise it permanently.

But yes it’s an investment. But there’s a reason few rich people have this problem. And it’s not even hard work. It’s literally just know how and being able to find and afford a 1-1.

ChrissyBells · 11/12/2024 18:06

I couldn't afford it and I wouldn't be able to do it anyways. I have other non physical issues that would prevent me.

Hopefully it's not that 😅

Ok well in that case I would be saving up for a one-off PT session so that they can assess your body, the way your chains work and what's out of kilter, because you won't be able to fix that by yourself without an initial diagnosis.

I can't have any PT sessions.

I didn't want to say as it always derails the thread but I have agoraphobia and OCD, I avoid people like the plague. I couldn't go to the gym or allow someone in my home.

I'm slowly trying to fix myself but any kind of interaction like that is not possible right now.

I’d recommend the Mutu system, at least to start on core work. It’s for pelvic floor/diastasis recti, but it’s a really good way to strengthen your core, work on your alignment and get you to a point where you’re strong enough to move onto some more serious core work, if you need it. It certainly made a difference to how my stomach looks, even though I carry a bit of extra weight.

I paid £100 for a year subscription. The main course is 12 weeks. I keep returning to the videos between doing some other types of exercises.

I'm staggered that given this situation your priority is doing something about your appearance, rather than the much more fundamental work that needs to be done to give you quality of life. Your time and energy should be dealing with your agoraphobia first and foremost. I hope you have a counsellor or therapist to help you. If you don't then look up low-cost and free therapy in your area, which can be done online. Good luck x

@glowinggg

I think that response is unfair. You have no idea what the OP is doing in respect for support around her mental health - and it's not really relevant with regard to this thread aside from the fact that she is unable to interact with someone in person at present .

Thabkyou.

I've been working bloody hard to overcome it. Including losing a shit tonne of weight to improve my general health and confidence.
Just because I'm not at the point that I could get a PT doesn't mean I should ignore everything else.

Ridiculous sentiment.

I’ve lost 5 stone and am now 9 .5 stone, 5’7. It’s been three years now, and I still have that tummy. I’ve had 2
c sections, and I don’t think there is anything I can do (other than a tummy tuck which I can’t afford.

As to fitness and the gym - I hate to say it, but I go to about 6 classes a day, including weights, core work, yoga etc. My core is loads stronger and I am toned all over , apart from my tummy.

on the plus side, I am better at holding it in!

Maybe we aren't meant to have flat tummies...? I bet you look bloody awesome and really fit!

unclemtty · 13/12/2024 10:38

You do not need a tummy tuck!
Assuming all is well after your gp health check then you need to do exercise that build your core muscles and improve posture

I actually do. I have a massive overhang of saggy skin
At the consult I was told I would need a 360 fluer de lis TT which is the most 'extreme' one because of the amount of excess skin and the way it hangs.

I mean I won't be getting one but cosmetically it has been recommended and if you saw my skin laid bare you couldn't deny that it would be beneficial

You've done brilliantly OP, well done!
Some basic yoga or Pilates will build up your core and pull everything in. You can easily do it at home in front of a mirror to check your posture. 10 minutes a day is all
you need to get started. Check out Yoga with Adrienne.

They could be my before and after photos tbh. Nothing else could have remedied it apart from a tummy tuck.

I can't explain how much more I love my life now that I don't think about my stomach all the same time. Genuinely the best money I ever spent (ok, borrowed).

Honestly, to suggest that by improving the posture that apron made out of skin and fat is going to vanish is just bonkers.
Surgery is the only way you can get rid of that. If you can't afford it, you can ask for a loan.

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 13/12/2024 11:10

I really sympathise with the agoraphobia. I suffered for years. I don’t think people get it. To have OCD as well must be debilitating.

Sounds like you have done amazingly well. I would recommend Pilates at home if possible? Lots of online classes.

I'm on disability. I can't even get a catalogue account right now. No one is going to loan me 10k!

It baffles me sometimes how some people on here can't fathom that £10,000 for cosmetic surgery just isn't feasible for some.

Even if I did suddenly have 10k there's 50 other things that I would prioritise that money for that would benefit my whole family.
