How do I get rid of belly fat?

ChrissyBells · 10/12/2024 22:09

I've lost 110lbs and am now 9st9lbs

I know some of it is skin and I cannot do anything about that but inside the belly skin I have a lot of fat.

I don't want to lose anymore weight.

My original goal was 11st7lbs but my belly was still huge, so I kept going, trying to shrink it. But it was still big however much I lost

I am going to lose 2 more lbs to be 9 and a half stone but I have to stop there, I cannot go lower.

But my belly is still big in comparison to everywhere else from the side!

Is there anything I can do?

Images of my waist in size 12 jeans from front and side for comparison!

And no it’s not 6 classes a day! It’s an hour a week with someone who who will have you doing toe taps whilst correcting your pelvis / spine and instructing you through diaphragmatic breathing excercises.

coxesorangepippin · 11/12/2024 02:47

Did you have sections with your kids?

I did with mine and man is it difficult to lose that lower belly fat

NoCarbsForMe · 11/12/2024 08:31

Posture
Yoga
Probiotics
Low carb

NoCarbsForMe · 11/12/2024 08:31

Well done you for losing the weight!! It can be a tough old slog! I was 11 stone post partum, pre pregnancy was 9 stone 3. In all honesty it’s only now I am 8.5 stone that I really feel better , yes at 10/9 stone I could tell the difference, but honestly with shifting that extra half a stone, my stomach feels toned and my mum pouch has very nearly gone. I vouched I wouldn’t go under 9 stone as I am paranoid of being called too thin which has happened a lot all of my life when 7/8 stone. I am unlikely to go under my weight now though and I am likely to go up as I weight train etc. this is not to say starve yourself or lose more weight by the way, I am just sharing my experience.

But I feel comfortable here
My face is verging on gaunt and I don't want my arms/legs to go any thinner.

I really don't want to lose anymore

I can only tell you what worked for me. No carbs that are processed. Avoid processed food in general. Eat smaller portions. I went vegan too. I'm unsure if that helped. I think it is more the no processed carbs that work.

I don't eat carbs anymore
Or chocolate/sugar

This is the answer.

Check your pelvic tilt. You can google how with YouTube videos.

Then 1-1 old school Pilates instructor to activate your corset muscles. This isnt your abs. It’s underneath a giant sleeve; basically like a thin plastic shopping bag running from your diaphragm to your pelvic floor. At the moment that’s all your organs and intestines just bunched up there at the bottom of the shopping bag.

You would be surprised how quick a fix it is. 6 weeks to retilt your pelvis and a further 6 months to stabilise and get the shopping bag back in shape.

Interesting!

Totally understand! I have not done it myself but I know a few people who swear by Pilates for helping their core and stomach.

How tall are you? I’m 5ft 6 and weight 8.5 stone….I would have some belly fat if I weighed 9.5 stone ….I’ve had 3 kids …..I’m not gaunt or have thin arms or legs….just a regular size 8 to 10 …..I think sometimes have to accept your figure….you look fine to me…,maybe try looking for a different type of jeans

For me, only a tummy tuck. Best thing I ever did for myself.

Same!!!
An unbelievable result

ChrissyBells · 11/12/2024 10:15

I'm 5.5
I understand that but from my POV I've been neat 18stone for years and overweight my entire adult life so for me 9st7lbs is skinny and something I never thought I would achieve.

It's been so hard to get here and every lb is so difficult to get off now.

I feel like I've surpassed what I originally wanted and just want to learn to settle in to this weight now.

I don't want to go into the new year thinking I need to lose another 14lbs and the pressure that brings.

I've spent years losing weight. I want to be done now.

Well obviously surgery is going to be an unbelievable result, it's literally chopping all the skin and fat off but not everyone can have that done.

I've lost some weight (2-3 dress size) but I've seen the biggest change when I started being consistent with weights. Including core exercises and pilates. I've not lost much more weight but it's made a difference to my body shape.

What kind of weights do you do to tackle belly area?

BigDahliaFan · 11/12/2024 10:28

weights and pilates. It's taken a while (I'm old) but I can see the difference. Also no white carbs and drinking less. Posture as well - the Pilates and weights really help with that.

bakewellbride · 11/12/2024 10:30

Congratulations on your loss. I swear by planking but no direct experience of losing a lot of weight so might not be for you but maybe worth a try.

Yes, I guess it’s all relative……I have never weighed 9.5stone so to me this would not be skinny.
just get better fitting jeans ….,maybe need a new style…..that hides belly fat or holds it in more

ChrissyBells · 11/12/2024 10:50

Good for you 👍

I definitely feel skinny in size 10 top and trousers

What kind of weights do you do to tackle belly area?

Well you can't spot reduce it (unless surgery etc) but generally weight training upper/lower body, plus including pilates and core exercises. I eat quite clean too , more protein, moderate/ less carbs.

If you have good technique, almost any weight training will strengthen your abdominals because weight training requires that you support with your core. Plank, pushups, overhead presses, deadlift, chest press, all of them work your core.

So glad to hear that was benign. It must've been terrifying.

It absolutely was!

BlastedPimples · 11/12/2024 00:39

@fudgesmummy 50lbs tumour! Bloody hell. I bet you felt walking on air once that was removed.

It was benign but stage 1 ovarian cancer? I'm confused.

They didn’t know it was benign until 6 weeks after the surgery when it had been tested.
I had the surgery in our local specialist cancer hospital and apparently this makes it stage 1 ovarian cancer

If you're even prepared to consider a massively expensive, massively dangerous, massively impactful surgery like a tummy tuck, you'd be better off investing a fraction of that in a short course with a really good PT, who knows their field and can get you exercising and using the muscles and your body correctly. You could get a course of 6 sessions and do additional workouts at home or in the gym and see a vast improvement.

I'm not.
I went for a consultation with a friend who has lost a similar amount. I was just curious what the surgeons opinion would be and the price. I could never, ever afford even a 3rd of it so it was never on the cards for me but I was there for moral support and curiosity.

I can't see a personal trainer or go to the gym.
