Have worked hard recovering my nails from acrylics over the past few months. & am loving not having to get them infilled etc.
just wondered is natural the favoured look now?

Do whatever suits you, not what everyone else is doing. Nothing wrong with natural nails. Nothing wrong with painted nails or full on nail art. As long as they're not tatty.

Fashion wise? Yes. Natural or natural gel colours at nail bed length.

Personal choice? You do whatever you like.

Coconutter24 · 10/12/2024 21:34

If you prefer them natural that’s all that matters. I wouldn’t say it’s the favoured look because 8/10 people I see have false coloured nails

dudsville · 10/12/2024 21:34

I like them all, including full on nail art! My own have been natural for many years now. I painted them once last year and felt it was too showy as I'd got used to them being plain😂

I think acrylics are really not in anymore, probably due to people realising how damaged your nails can get with prolonged services. But gel manicures are still very popular. BIAB/builder gel especially. And hard gel is rearing its head again too. I am a nail tech and most of my clients have a natural/plain builder gel with very simple, if any, nail art most of the time. Apart from Christmas, everyone has gone full out with the reds, greens, reflective glitters, mistletoes, bows, stars. Bows and stars are very 'in' currently. The odd one or two like 'funky' day to day, but these are usually the older ladies. The fashion for younger people is 'clean girl aesthetic' which is basically very minimal, scandi style, something that gives the appearance of 'natural'. Nudes, milky pinks, a simple thin French tip, semi opaque colours. So what I'm trying to say, in a really convoluted way, is 'natural' is very in, but it doesn't always mean bare.

DazedAndConfused321 · 10/12/2024 21:49

I think BIAB nails and shorter almond shaped acrylics are 'in' at the moment. I usually have a natural almond shape nail, but with a bit of length to it. Anything too short makes me look like I have claws!

There's no definite preference though, I know many women who have long coffin shaped nails as their daily, or really long nails with chunky nail art or gems on.

Not sure if they are preferred or just people don't have the time/ money to get them done or do them themselves. If I had the money I would have gel nails done every 3 weeks but as it is I don't do anything. I think having nails done adds a touch of glam.

I think a lot of people have realised how damaging gels and acrylics can be and either choose to carry on or go for a more natural look.

WalterdelaMare · 10/12/2024 22:26

I think, in the way lash extensions and powder/HD brows have become terribly dated looking, fake-looking gels and acrylics have also lost popularity and are a barometer of naff.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 10/12/2024 22:35

My preference is natural, I have shortish 'squoval' nails usually with a very pale pink Polish. Like a French manicure without the blinding white tips. Not a fan of long fake talon nails in garish colours

Blinkingbonkers · 10/12/2024 23:47

I’ve stopped getting my nails done (only ever did gel, no acrylics) - it just destroys them….they look great (& smart) natural.

Moveoverdarlin · 10/12/2024 23:49

Never had gels or acrylics, always had long natural nails that I just paint myself.

Lucy Long Socks · 11/12/2024 00:50

Do what you prefer I say.
