Hush Millie Skirt

Ive been coveting this skirt and it's just come back into stock so I've ordered one. Now I'm stumped because I've no idea how to style it, what tops and footwear would people recommend?

I usually live in jeans, sweatshirts and trainers but I need to up my game.

I'd like to be able to wear it over Xmas, for a registry office wedding in spring and then have some idea how to style it for a lunch or night out.

I'm pushing 50, 5'10 and size 12 pear shaped.
I'd be so grateful for any pointers.

For me, would have to be a cropped t-shirt or jumper. I don’t mean really cropped. Just in line with the skirts waistband.
then I would be wearing black ankle boots.

It’s a nice skirt, but definitely not like this

Two options in my opinion

firstly day clumpy black ankle boots and a wide semi crop jumper that has the previous poster said shows the waistband slightly, not a long jumper like they’ve got in the picture.

Second option evening spiky heels or low-cut spiky heeled boots, bare legs close fitting top tucked into into the skirt

actually, there’s a third, long close fitting boots

I wondered if this might be ok
for the wedding?

That too is very similar to something I wear regularly (that drowns me and has no shape at all🙄)

Do you think a low heeled gold ankle boot would be a bit much if I got a decent top?

Me exactly. It's not a skirt I would dress up.

This shape of jumper. (Cheaper options are available)

Crop jumper

A friend has this skirt and wears it with cropped jumpers, or a t shirt tucked in. Flat boots or ballet flats/flat mary janes. I wouldn’t wear spiky heels with it - they will get caught in the tulle!

Just bought an almost identical New Look one on Vinted for .... £4!
I agree with PP that a cropped top finishing at the waistband is the best 'look'.
Also gold ankle boots would be fab!

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/12/2024 13:58

I'd wear a slim fitting cardigan or cashmere in a similar grey. Silver shoes/boots.

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 07/12/2024 14:01

Agree with @TheFormidableMrsC that silver feet is better with grey - more harmonious in tone than gold.

Gorgeous skirt! Short fine knit jumper is the way to go.

I have a Hush Florence skirt from a few years ago and have worn it to death. Agree about heels getting caught in the tulle, so flat shoes keeping the top simple are best.

Packetofcrispsplease · 07/12/2024 16:45

It’s gorgeous, I’d wear ballet flats and a short neat cashmere cardigan in a lighter colour .

Waystation · 07/12/2024 20:29

I ordered this skirt it’s stunning - unfortunately I’m 5’3 and it was just to long - I could not go up and down stairs or bend over without it trailing on the floor - my DD kindly swooped in and took it off my hands - she wears it with a slightly cropped cashmere jumper and ballet flats or a cropped t shirt, ankle boots and a leather jacket, she has also worn it with a old sweatshirt that somehow managed to look great!

Barney16 · 08/12/2024 13:40

Day time I would wear it with a black round neck sweater, like pp have said hitting the waist, black tights chunky black boots. Doc Martens but I always wear them. Less clunky I would go for a light grey cashmere twinset and black ballet flats. The skirts the star so I would keep everything else sleek.

Topsyturvey10 · 09/12/2024 20:36

Thanks for all the ideas, I've ordered a couple of short jumpers to try and some ballet flats.

I'm going to try it with my chunky boots too.

I've got time before my friends wedding to see if I can make it work for that too.

Well, the skirt arrived and was lovely but looked hideous on me. It really didn't suit my shape at all and made me looks enormous so back it went.

The jumpers were all a bit meh too, nothing I was particularly struck by when I tried them on.

Im going to try and resurrect a skirt I had last year with a new top instead and think about the money I saved.

I always think they are difficult skirts to wear as they add so much bulk. I really prefer slip skirts that are bias cut. They are so very flattering I find. Hush do one called "Simone" so you can see what I mean. However, they are available all over the place. My favourite black matt satin one is from Primark of all places. It's another shape that dresses up and down very well.

SanctusInDistress · 16/12/2024 22:31

It a nice skirt but you need to be tall and with no hips to be able to pull it off. Your body shake seems to be like mine and our best flattering style are shift dresses that do not cling

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 17/12/2024 09:26

Too late for you, but if anyone else has or is thinking about getting a similar skirt, I think it would go beautifully with a short, maybe fluffy textured top half in that very soft muted pink like ballet shoes, or a lighter, silvery grey.
