Baerskin fleece/rain jacket alternative

Not sure if this should be on this board or Christmas 😬 DP has been taken in by the Youtube algorithm ads and seems quite keen on one of these. They’re like a super fleece that has a modular rain jacket that can be zipped up to it to make an insulated/warm waterproof or worn on its own.

I’d love to get him something like this as a christmas present but I’m super skeptical about buying off social media ads and direct websites like things when I don’t know the brand. 1 not sure on delivery times and 2 I just don’t trust it.

I’d rather get him something similar from a known tried and trusted brand or high street shop if possible and something I could order online pretty soon.

Any suggestions? Anyone seen or has something similar they recommend?

Thank you!

Mixed reviews. They seem to be genuine, but perhaps not delivering what was promised. Even their website says deliver could be two weeks, longer at busy periods, so you're probably stuffed for a Christmas present. A lot of recent reviewers are complaining of very long waits, non-fulfilment or receiving the wrong product.

They do answer a lot of negative reviews, which could indicate either a committed approach or a great social media manager!

Customers who've used the product in tough conditions (mainly Canada, but also some UK) say it doesn't block the wind and isn't waterproof.

So, I dunno - order one because it's what he wants, or go for a well-known outdoor brand that delivers what it promises.

Thanks @Garlicwest I think the latter is the best option as I don’t think he is bought into the brand but into the concept of a 3-in-1 (fleece, rain jacket, zipped up together for insulated rain jacket). Just not sure what brands to look at that do a similar thing.

I also think he would probably prefer a legacy brand of some sort of it actually delivered on quality.

I clicked it appears to be in $ and offered 60% off ! which screams dodgy to me.
Kathmandu could be a good choice?

North Face, if you're feeling generous!

As flagged by another poster, Northface and other outdoor brands do 3 in 1 layer jackets. I've had one in the past but far prefer a very good waterproof and my 'own' layers underneath.

I really rate Finisterre as a company - the quality of their products has never let me down and good ethical principles to boot. I saw this recently and thought about how useful it would be for me (it's not a layering jacket as you've asked for but a modular one). Does he need a waterproof jacket or looking for flexibility in a jacket?

Thanks for the great suggestions. Love those Mountain Warehouse ones @Garlicwest as the price point is good and they seem to have a sale on too. I also have a Mountain Warehouse jacket myself and it’s done me pretty well so I like the brand. Would love to spring for NorthFace but perhaps will save up for something like that, only 2 weeks to go n’ all 😅
