How often do you treat yourself?

I typically buy a couple of things a months in clothes, spendy items like footwear and coats about once every three month. Do not really buy costume jewellery. Accessories usually ask for birthdays / Christmas. Make up - rarely, when run out or if I fancy something may be a couple of times a year. Skincare / hair care - buy a lot, at least one item per week. Haircut (pixie) every 4 weeks, scale and polish twice a year. Do my own nails.

My friend Kolin is a stylist,, he also works for Burberry as for he doesn't gave enough clients for full time. He charges £900 a day for going out shopping with you and £3000 if he has done the shopping already and you spend time in the studio trying on lunch then shopping.

Well I can afford approximately ten minutes with Kolin 😆

Me too. I talk to him on LinkedIn mostly!!

@HeartOfChocolate I love it! I've collected bags for years from the 1900s onwards and jewellery too. Mostly secondhand, I've got a jewellery chest about the size of a four seat kitchen table maybe a tad taller. And then scarves they are difficult to store nicely, silk cashmere etc so need to be moth protected .
I don't drink or smoke so I don't see it as being an expensive thing. A packet of cigarettes is £8 (it was last time I bought a pack for a friend) & in my opinion is more wasteful (&harmful)
.

Heatherbell1978 · 06/12/2024 09:51

Similar to you OP. In a previous life I was very indulgent with clothes but now I've had to accept that other things are more important. I try and be reasonably fashionable but wfh a lot in 'lounge wear'. Buy make up and beauty when needed. Don't wear expensive jewellery, but buy earrings fairly regularly at the likes of FatFace. Happy to spend money on nice coats and trainers but probably two or three times a year. Don't get any beauty treatments aside from occasional massage. Hair gets highlighted regularly though.

Every time I get paid. It's my money and life is short.

Yes same here, all the time.

LigamentBandy · 06/12/2024 09:58

@soupfiend ( not a derailment) how is the coat situation? Keep any of them?

livingafulllife · 06/12/2024 10:02

As much as i can today im going to get my back rubbed with hot oils and go shopping for skin care items and a new hair dryer.

DecayingRelic · 06/12/2024 10:18

I must be unusual but I HATE spending money. I never buy anything unless it needs replaced because it has worn out, never had nails done, I just cut them myself.

justaword · 06/12/2024 10:27

It's not treating myself to buy decent clothing etc. It's part of taking care of myself, and presenting myself in an appropriate or professional manner. I use makeup, and if I want to buy a new item, then I will. Haircuts etc are scheduled regularly. None of it feels like a treat to me, just what I do to function at the level that suits me.

endofthecorridoor · 06/12/2024 10:31

About £300 per month but not every month.
Skin cuticles skin care this year has cost a fortune but my skin has never looked better and glycolic peels have really helped as well (and a bit of Botox)
Spend more per item but less items now
I think I've finally understood my style and lifestyle so I don't buy things that don't suit me or I will never wear.
I suspect as the years go on I will spend less as I also made a bedroom into a dressing room when the kids left home and it's amazing what a difference being able to see everything makes. I don't repeat buy things and I wear more of my clothes that I've had for years

fiualdje · 06/12/2024 10:36

Although I agree with some others, I'm not treating myself, I'm just spending my money!

Once in a blue moon, but that blue moon is on whenever I fancy. I make a clear distinction between ‘treat’ and ‘need’, and I aim for combining the two.

I like to feel like I’m treating myself every time I open the drawer and pick an item to wear, or apply face cream, or put some perfume or jewellery on.

Because it signifies I put thought into it, I took myself into consideration and showed myself care and love. And you know, it shows.
Treat others how you want to be treated and the other way around.

It took me 50 years to learn to deal with the whole package, not just the looks. The whole Maslow pyramid is a bloody diamond 😂

Thank you all for sharing! I have so many question as!

@CatamaranViper what are you and DH having for Christmas? We need some inspiration after 20 years of prawn cocktail and turkey

@StarDolphins would love to know about your perfumes

@LigamentBandy come again? Bag and accessories ROOM? Need to know more.

@Foxlover46 similar story here, took me 3 years to fully understand my new work uniform after pandemic. I spend 2 years working in my gym kit, assuming we will be back in pencil dresses soon. Never happened, even office days are dressed down. However, we did have SLT meeting this week and all the women did put on old school smart. First time I have seen some with their leegies out.

@Tarnishedbutton best of luck to you! I met 2 people at DH work party who I didn’t see since last year’s, a couple, both on these injections. Unrecognisable, they look amazing. So is my colleague at work and she bought a lot of new clothes for her new size, and looks fantastic.

I love Chloe, La vie este belle & Tom Ford😊

It’s important to treat ourselves!

Julia34 · 06/12/2024 13:03

Every day 😅

MyStylish40s · 06/12/2024 13:04

Clothes, probably once or twice a month. I’ll probably buy a top, trousers and skirt.
Hair: Cut and highlights every 8 weeks
Nails: twice a year (summer holiday and Christmas)
Brows: Waxed and tinted every 3rd week
Makeup and skincare: As needed, usually go several months without buying anything
Handbags and accessories, once a year or less

Foxlover46 · 06/12/2024 13:19

@HeartOfChocolate oh really ! I dread to imagine what my legs would look outed ha ha

Im going to say it. I look the f**king business in them and someone complimented me on one of them as I was going into cafe!

LigamentBandy · 06/12/2024 18:03

@soupfiend top banana! 😍

sansou · 06/12/2024 19:45

I have a weakness for nice supermarket tote bags originating from the Orla Kiely Tesco collab back in the day. I have way too many but fortunately, my addiction doesn’t break the bank and I actually use them or gift some of them. My latest are the Lulu Guinness tote AND the Sara Miller Xmas tote from Waitrose and the Zandra Rhodes Feather Tote might have recently fallen into my Tesco basket.

KristieLambert · 07/12/2024 09:40

Every week, I buy some clothes and shoes that I like and have a big meal.

notacooldad · 07/12/2024 09:46

Getting my nails done, pedicures, spray tan, hair cut and coloured, threading and eyelashes and massages etc are not a 'treat'. It's something i do as part of my grooming.

A treat for me is is going hard on my card at a cocktail bar in the city ( once every couple of months) or having a splurge if the moment weekend away. I'd do that every weekend if I could!!

This year we're doing Christmas pizzas. All homemade and cooked in the pizza oven.
