Holland & Barrett advent calendar opening thread

This is the thread for daily opening of the H&B advent calendar. As with all the threads, the only firm rule is not discussing a drawer's contents before the day. The usual timeline is no spoilers before 7am but we can agree a different time if people want to.

I'm not at all bothered by the 7am rule. I only put it in as it seems to always be a rule in these threads. If we want to, we can change it. I'd be OK with anything after midnight.

Pleased with today's. Love the way the calendars been curated so far- giving us one of everything to build a routine instead of a load of randoms and repeats.

I must admit I pulled out the box then had a moment of confusion thinking it was number 6, before realising day 6 had gone!

I’m ok with anything after midnight because I just avoid the thread until I’ve opened mine! And I’ve just opened it, so here I am! I am very pleased with the serum. I’ve never heard of the brand, but like yesterday’s it sounds exactly what my skin needs!

I’ve already applied the eye serum, moisturiser, deodorant, rollerball (get me - I will not let it go to waste! 😂) so I will have to try the serum later. EL ANR is what I usually use at night, but I will try this tonight then use it in the mornings from now on.

I’m a bit wary of niacinamide as a couple of products containing this have made my skin break out - I’m not sure whether this was the culprit or not, but I guess I’ll find out soon!

And I agree, @greywolfie , it’s been put together very well - well done H&B! I’ve noticed as I’ve been using everything (apart from the cleanser), and there are no duplicates yet, unlike with calendars I’ve had in the past.

I’ve bought one for my DM but haven’t managed to get it to her in time despite buying it ages ago 😕 so it looks like she’ll have to open it in one go, or have a jadvent calendar!

So do we want to change the rule to anything after midnight?

I think the fairest thing would be to only change the rule if nobody objects rather than just going with a majority as I know some people see previews in their active list.

I have already got the list of items ...so I am staying out of that decision 😍! 😂😂

I need your help, knowledgable skin care people!

I love all the pots and potions, but am never sure what I should be using when & in what order.

At the moment my morning routine is... wash face in shower / No7 repair & renew serum / SPF moisturiser

When would you use the vinegar toner? Could todays serum replace the No7? If using a primer, does that come at the end?

I tend towards the oily end of the spectrum with large pores and am usually a big old shine ball by the end of the day so any recommmendations for things I should add to / remove from my routine would be much appreciated.

I'd use the toner before the serum. You can use the new one instead of the No 7. Primer is last before makeup. No need for primer if not wearing makeup. You should try and let each layer dry before the next one.

With the toner, I tip a little into the palm of the hand, rub hands gently and then pat it on to my face. It lasts much longer than if you're using cotton wool or similar as you lose a lot in the cotton wool.

I can’t find out much about this product on line H&B don’t seem to stock it anymore and the only other seller is on eBay.
I have had mixed reactions to retinol products in the past. Some have wrecked my skin barrier so I’m going to be quite cautious using this.

I've actually been using this for a few weeks! I ran out of night cream and didn't want to buy any as I knew there was some in my calendars so I opened this drawer early.
It's a decent cream. I'd prefer something a bit richer at this time of year but I tend to layer up with face oil anyway.
It's a shame that H&B aren't stocking it anymore as I might have repurchased

I’m very happy with it, I’m looking forward to trying it! I haven’t tried any retinoid products yet so this might be a good way to try one.

Yes that’s it @iridescentsnowflake I don’t know why it was telling me that the product was not available. Google glitch I suppose.

Do you think this can be used after your normal retinol serum,or should it be instead of?

I'm happy with this although I don't know that retinol products do much for me.
