How many pairs of DMs do you have? How different are they?

I'm breaking in my first pair, and already know I'm likely to want more - but dh went "How much?!!! 😵" at the price.

  1. Buy them second hand- cheaper, better quality if they are older styles and already worn in. Win win!!
mdinbc · 28/11/2024 18:36

0, I have been tempted a few times, but they seem so heavy and stiff.

Precipice · 28/11/2024 18:38

Zero, currently. I used to have a pair that was a nice metallic purple leather, but they became too tight for me. I haven't seen any I particularly liked since.

I don't see why you'd have more than one pair at a time.

SoulMole · 28/11/2024 18:40

Six 🤪

itsnotmeitsu · 28/11/2024 21:19

Just counted, and I have nine pairs. There's a big difference between the first ones and the last ones comfort-wise. The production of the ones in Asia don't compare with the original ones I bought, so I won't be buying any more.

Fizzygoo · 28/11/2024 21:23

I have 4…but I’ve just got a pair of blundstones as I batter through my dms and I want to protect them…and they have got very pricey…last purchase was the Chelsea boots, that’s why now blundstone so I can do dog walking aswell

ForGreyKoala · 28/11/2024 21:29

None. I had a couple of pair but didn't find them comfortable.

Trinity69 · 28/11/2024 21:31

2 pairs, both recently purchased. Am well aware I will need more.

Moier · 28/11/2024 21:38

Non.. used to wear them in the 70s.. couldn't now.. mind l am 66 .

StinkerTroll · 28/11/2024 21:48

4 pairs, I love DMs, so comfortable when they've been broken in. I got married in a white paitent pair, they were glorious (there are more pictures of the blinking boots than my gorgeous dress 🤣)

dudsville · 28/11/2024 22:02

Two pairs of shoes, the brown groucho and black soft leather. A stone/chalk coloured pair of soft leather lace up boots, which are good with summer dresses in the not-hot days. An all black pair and an oxblood pair of soft leather lace up boots, and a brown groucho pair of boots for autumn and winter. I love them all! All of mine were comfortable straight out of the box. I never buy uncomfortable shoes, but I won't need anymore for a few years!

Doggymummar · 28/11/2024 22:03

White sandals, rip my feet to shreds every time I wear them

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 28/11/2024 22:10

Just one, taking me forever to break them in. It's putting me off any more. Bought for nostalgia, I lived in a black pair in my late teens and twenties, no idea what happened to them.

SanFranBear · 28/11/2024 22:14

3 of the standard boots (black, turquoise and pink), 2 knee high (grey suede & red) and 1 pair of black shoes.

I've had sooo many in my time though (first pair at 16 and late 40s now), but I find them very narrow these days and with the closure of the factory shop, eye wateringly expensive.. doesn't stop me although like pp's, I only really shop on Ebay now!

WildCherryBlossom · 28/11/2024 22:40

I only have one pair atm. Chelsea Boots. Super comfortable from the outset, never needed breaking in. I'm going on a city break soon and they will be the only footwear I take. I know my feet will be happy pounding the streets in them.

alloutofcareunits · 28/11/2024 23:48

8
Pale pink shoes
Black shoes with peace signs on
Blue painted floral design
Cream soft boots
White sandals
Black soft standard boots
Purple suede clogs
Black two buckle Mary Janes

I have A LOT of shoes

polkadotpixie · 28/11/2024 23:48

I've only got 1 pair but I'd like some Chelsea boots too. Buy them 2nd hand on Vinted, much cheaper and someone else has done the wearing in for you 🤣

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 28/11/2024 23:49

DD reckons 12 is a reasonable amount.

LilacLilyBird · 29/11/2024 00:30

I bought my first pair late 80's early 90's when they brought out their first purple pair.

They brought out the first coloured pairs like green and purple. They probably already had the cherry pairs out but not the brighter colours

Meant that suddenly everyone wanted a pair or so it seemed

I bloody loved mine

LilacLilyBird · 29/11/2024 00:31

I had to go to the Dr M shop in Covent Garden to buy them at the time.

Only place you could get them

LilacLilyBird · 29/11/2024 00:32

I only have standard black shoe pair now

Willowback · 29/11/2024 00:36

I just bought another black pair from the Hut today for £109.

Joolsin · 29/11/2024 00:42

22 pairs, I think 🤭 - just a slight obsession!! My oldest pair are over 30 years old and many of the rest I bought second-hand.

Hiddle1976 · 29/11/2024 00:43

3 pairs, 1st pair bought in 1989 at red or dead in afflecks

MrDarlingtonsPie · 29/11/2024 03:54

I’ve got a pair of sandals and a pair of taupe boots which due to a combination of things seem to make my feet look enormous. Secretly wish I’d gone for black as think I would have got more wear out of them. May go for some Mary Jane’s this winter to wear with tights.
