Deep blackhead on DS's forehead. Ideas for removal

sunshinechaser · 27/11/2024 13:28

My DS is 14 and has started getting bumpy, slightly spotty skin as he's going through puberty. He had a raised bump on his forehead which has now fallen off but it's left a really deep black mark that I presume is a blackhead. He's a bit self conscious about it so I wondered if anyone had recommendations for skincare for teens that might help.
He currently uses Cerave blemish face wash that contains salicylic acid and niacinamide and applies salicylic acid lotion twice daily. This usually keeps his skin in good condition but not sure how long this will continue to work as his skin gets spottier with age.

Jaysus just squeeze it. Try gently and if nothing is happening then leave it but you may well find it comes out very easily.

LatteLady · 27/11/2024 19:32

Blackhead, sterile needle to break the surface tension and then two cotton buds on sticks not the double ended jobs and squeeze from the outside and massage the contents out, but make sure you remove it all.

TheOnlyAletheia · 27/11/2024 19:35

Oh Lordy - just needs a gentle squeeze 🙂

Jostuki · 27/11/2024 19:37

Two matchsticks, one either side of it and press down and it will schwooze out nicely.

SqueamishHamish · 27/11/2024 19:47

Acnecide is good for blackheads.

Dermatica (online dermatologist service) sorted out my DD lumps and bumps on her face. Just has to use it occasionally now. She has beautifully clear skin. Got it in time before it got worse

I'd be squeezing the fuck out of that.

I’m normally clutching my pearls at Swearing on here but that made me belly laugh
thank you

Get one of those blackhead removal kit things off Amazon they are great it’s like a little tool, you put it on the blackhead with a little pressure and they come out

@ouch44 oh good to know! I use Dermatica too but I didn't know under 18s could access the treatment. That's brilliant

Have a look at Enlisa brown or Josefa Reina on YouTube great blackhead removers leave little skin trauma. Doctors on the whole just make a mess.

As if it’s takes 186 replies and now potentially a GP appointment for a blackhead 🤣

could be ingrown hair. I see he has other hairs on his forehead
my DH has something similar on his neck. I squeeze it from time to time and get gunge out of mit but it builds up,again

I think that's just his eyebrows?

Wanderlust9 · 27/11/2024 19:59

I took my daughter to the GP. She was treated with Doxycycline and Epiduo

Rubyupbeat · 27/11/2024 19:59

A sharp needle and tweezers. OOh I love a big juicy blackhead......

CharlotteLucas3 · 27/11/2024 20:03

I think Roaccutane should only be a last resort. I know you're not considering it now but please don't ever consider it.

I know 🤣🤣 I do these bad boys almost daily !!

SpoonWalk · 27/11/2024 20:07

I really recommend 47 Skin serum, it has an antibacterial formula, apply it first and it may also be just enough for him. I get mine in Boots

It helped my son. I am not a dermatology Consultant but the Consultant prescribed a short course of roaccutane for my son. It was a game changer for his face. I am not saying everyone should seek roaccutane. I am saying the Dermatology Consultant is the expert and, if they think it's an appropriate prescription, they're the expert

My DD uses these tools for blackheads and spots.

@sunshinechaser if you are worried at any point, and can't get anywhere with your GP, and you want him to see a dermatologist, then you can self refer to a consultant these days for private treatment. Face to face is around £250-£300, online via video is generally under £200. For this practice, for example, it's £185.

When I was fobbed off by my GP about concerns re a skin issue I self referred to a consultant at a local Nuffield hospital, mainly because the consultant who did one morning a week there was a cancer specialist, and at my age that's always the concern, especially as a family member died of melanoma.

I got a swift diagnosis (not what the GP thought it was, but fortunately not cancer) and given options on treatment. I also got a full skin check, including my back for any potentially sinister moles etc.

All the logjams in the system where I live seem to be at the GP end, it takes 3 weeks to get an appointment, if you can convince them you need one after filling in their forms.

A generic google search of "consultant dermatologist UK" will bring up lots of options, that's the route I took and then looked at Nuffield because there is one within easy travel distance for me.

Ok, apologies if this alarmist. My husband had this & it was a basal carcinoma. Sorted easily. Just took ages to get him to the doctor his reluctance) Go see your GP.

Facial steaming to open his pores?
