Deep blackhead on DS's forehead. Ideas for removal

My DS is 14 and has started getting bumpy, slightly spotty skin as he's going through puberty. He had a raised bump on his forehead which has now fallen off but it's left a really deep black mark that I presume is a blackhead. He's a bit self conscious about it so I wondered if anyone had recommendations for skincare for teens that might help.
He currently uses Cerave blemish face wash that contains salicylic acid and niacinamide and applies salicylic acid lotion twice daily. This usually keeps his skin in good condition but not sure how long this will continue to work as his skin gets spottier with age.

You don’t have to use a scalpel OP. Scratch the skin with a clean needle, sufficient to draw a little blood. It will scab. Remove scab after a couple of days. This should make a small opening to remove the blackhead.

I know it’s tricky as it’s not on your own face, I would be more aggressive on my face, I often get out milia and that kind of thing that is under the skin, use those needles to make a hole and sometimes using tweezers to grab hold of the inside bit and pull it out. I honestly couldn’t stop until it was out! Would be beyond frustrating on my child as I know they wouldn’t let me at it and I would be more worried about damaging their skin.

Oh Op, we are so very invested!

As annoying as it is, it may just need time to come to the surface and no amount of prodding, poking or treatments will make a difference.

Thanks all. This thread has given me a laugh if nothing else-you are all disgusting 😂

Says the one who starts a thread about a blackhead!😂

What I can’t believe is that I’ve been watching this thread since November. I am really invested in this!

my daughter had a solid white head on her face for months - a dermatologist and beautician said a type of cyst needed cutting off after 18 - she’s
12 she didn’t want to go through high school wit this thing. we squeezed it nothing was rock solid, until one eve after a hot bath with wet skin, she scraped it hard and it popped - it was horrible trying to get rid of it.

Do you have a pic? My son has something similar, I really want it removed but the dermatologist said it would need general anaesthetic and he is too young (4). It looks like the white part could easily come out if it was pierced.

That one looks like a calcium type thing, my dad has had those of different sizes around his eyes, he says all his life, and would never let me or other sporner family members try to get rid of them, bah! Occasionally would just pop.

Thank you, yes that looks so similar and it’s in the same place as well! I really want to take a pin to it!

greengreyblue · 29/04/2025 19:41

I had one of those white ones near my eye and my DM pierced it with a sterilised( boiled water and gin 😂) needle and it popped out never to return

It took about 6 months before after a hot bath she scratched it and it started to come away, so we used one of those pimple press things to get the rest out, the skincare person said it was a cyst with a little sack which did seem to be right when it finally went

BunfightBetty · 01/05/2025 07:20

OP, have you emailed the private derm clinic to double check what they could do about this? It might not necessarily fall within the exclusions for children.

sunshinechaser · 01/05/2025 11:59

@BunfightBettyno but I spoke to someone on the phone and she was thoroughly unhelpful so I don’t hold out much hope.
He has been applying tretinoin every night for the last few weeks and I would say it’s fading slightly but very slowly. His forehead skin is peeling with the tret and as it peels the blackhead is very slowly fading so it seems to have been the only treatment that has made any difference. He’ll need to stick with it for months I think.
