Deep blackhead on DS's forehead. Ideas for removal

My DS is 14 and has started getting bumpy, slightly spotty skin as he's going through puberty. He had a raised bump on his forehead which has now fallen off but it's left a really deep black mark that I presume is a blackhead. He's a bit self conscious about it so I wondered if anyone had recommendations for skincare for teens that might help.
He currently uses Cerave blemish face wash that contains salicylic acid and niacinamide and applies salicylic acid lotion twice daily. This usually keeps his skin in good condition but not sure how long this will continue to work as his skin gets spottier with age.

No, you're wrong.

No, I am not. I take it for a fact that you have never been in Sporners Corner then?

Ihopeyouhavent · 27/11/2024 18:25

Get him to a specialist - dont scar his skin.

Haveacuppaandwaitforthistoblowover · 27/11/2024 18:26

Awwww I'd be right in about it! I remember my DS going through puberty and he had this one black head that was a total lump, worked on it for 3 days (my poor son) LOL but omg when I got it finally it was a total buzz and it literally exploded and all this gunk came out!

No scar either.

I can do my face and family but if I see one of those pimple pop tv shows I feel sick!

I CANNOT TAKE A PHOTO YET AS HE'S NOT BACK FROM SCHOOL!!!! 😂

🤣 GET BACK, YOU RAVENING SPORNER HOUNDS!!

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/11/2024 18:27

All the angst about scarring. Its a blackhead!

What is wrong with this kid?! The blackhead is the least of his worries. Why has he not squeezed it, or dug it out with a protractor like a normal person??

Do you mean a compass? I used to use my compass to dig my verucca.

borntobequiet · 27/11/2024 18:30

Use the loop of a hairpin (bobby pin) to press down firmly (but carefully) around the blackhead. Then pull or drag gently towards you. Works really well on most blackheads.

Absolutely this!

I'll be furious if I find out people are making and getting GP appointments for spots when Ive struggled for about 6 weeks to see an actual doctor anywhere

Nobody has said they are phoning GP if the note they have a spot. They are saying if there's a concern about acne type spots they are as entitled as anyone else to seek an appointment with GP (who can refer to dermatology).

🤣 GET BACK, YOU RAVENING SPORNER HOUNDS!!

I once made the mistake of looking up blackheads and biore strips on you tube.

But have you seen what are called ''Solar Blackheads''.... my goodness- those things are monsters.

Seems they are caused by the sun- hence the name.

Do you mean a compass? I used to use my compass to dig my verucca.

A protractor is a semi circle - can't see that it would be much use against blackheads unless it was used as a scraper?

A compass is pretty hardcore- and could introduce all types of infection...

My teenage son got a very large blackhead on the end of his nose, which I desperately tried to remove as I swear it was staring at me! It just wouldn’t budge, so took him to a dermatologist who couldn’t remove it either initially, by normal steaming and extraction tools, plus a layer of skin had grown over it. She had to use a salicylic acid machine to dislodge and breakdown the black head and then extract. I couldn’t believe it- this thing had layers! There is no way it would have come out at home, despite everything we were doing.
To my horror it reared its ugly ‘head’ again about a year later - so we returned to go through the same process.
Two years on and it hasn’t returned and surprisingly no mark/scar has been left.

SilverBlueRabbit · 27/11/2024 18:40

I'm just here for the photos tbh

It actually looks like a verruca. Can you get these on your face???!? Mind blown!

Totally can! My DS also managed to get athletes foot in his ear! 🤷‍♀️

sunshinechaser · 27/11/2024 18:46

Right. The poor soul is just home from rugby after school and I've taken a photo. It just looks like a black felt pen mark.

@sunshinechaser

Listerine (the mouthwash, but not the alcohol-free one), dabbed onto the spot with a cotton-bud. I have a travel-size bottle of this in the bathroom cabinet kept sterile exclusively for this purpose.
(Antibacterial effect speeds up recovery time, but isn't stringent on surrounding skin.)
Secret weapon I used as a teen, and whenever the odd adult blemish arose at inopportune occasions, and is now used exacly the same way by my 15yo DD who has great skin in general, and has passed it on to her best friend who swears by it, too.

PS: I'm also a former Clearasil gal, but these pads can be awfully strong+drying, causing the delicate face skin to over-produce oil to compensate - vicious cycle.
Listerine convert for sure.

Letmegohome · 27/11/2024 18:47

@sunshinechaser literally any beauty salon could sort that for you, much unnecessary worrying .

sunshinechaser · 27/11/2024 18:48

It actually looks too dark to be a blackhead

BrieHugger · 27/11/2024 18:48

There’s no way I’d be able to resist giving that a good squeeze.

BeachRide · 27/11/2024 18:50

Oh, I'd hold my husband down to squeeze that 🤣

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 27/11/2024 18:50

Give the pores a good steam, wash face and pat dry with a clean towel, then put a blister plaster over it overnight. They're designed to suck out moisture.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 27/11/2024 18:51

I'd be squeezing the fuck out of that.

soupfiend · 27/11/2024 18:53

Squeeze it for goodness sake, it will be out in jiffy

BiscuitDreams · 27/11/2024 18:54

Yep I'd be squeezing it!

Nikitaspearlearring · 27/11/2024 18:54

Squeeeeeeeze it
