Help me find a Christmas party outfit that works with a knee brace!

I had surgery a couple of weeks ago, I am on crutches and in a large knee brace. I was going to re wear a dress from a couple of years ago but I tried it on this morning and apparently my stance has ever so slightly changed with the crutches and therefore it’s a bit indecently high at the back! It appears I lean forward slightly at the moment.

I am 5ft 8, size 10, long legs. Budget is not huge…don’t want to spend more than £30/40. A jumpsuit is out of the question because of the brace and the inability to go to the toilet….with ordinary mobility I would be fine but I can’t balance on one leg and try to strip out of a jumpsuit 🤣.

Dress will need to look okay with a pair of plain white trainers-I need supportive footwear at the moment and obviously heels are out of the question!

I don’t really do bodycon dresses as I have massive hip dips and also the knee brace!

Have attached a pic of the style of knee brace I have so you can see what you are working with!

Help!

Full skirt + fluffy jumper or cardigan? Both would be wearable with loads of other things. Get better soon :)

I like the gold one but it depends on whether it’s that itchy material because that would drive me nutty 🤣.

Im not convinced I wouldn’t look like a shapeless sack in the maxi/midaxi dresses.

I have the gold one in green and it isn't itchy- I love it. It definitely helps with shape.
I'm 5ft 4 though and it's below knee on me - might not be as long as you want.

Bad photo of me in dress at very posh restaurant.

(I think that model picture is pretty accurate of how it would be on you. It isn't maxi).

I wore lace up heels. However, I think it would be better with black lace ups or ankle boots if you have them - rather than white lace ups.

I’m not afraid to have the brace on show, I just apparently can’t have a mini dress because of the stance I’ve adopted with the crutches. I don’t wish to be indecent 🤣.

I might have some all black trainers somewhere actually. Can’t get boots on, takes too much force to get them up over my heel.

I’ve had my leg broken so I do have to be a little careful with it.

I have ankle boots with a zip and laces due to a similar issue.

Also try Zara, I bought a nice dress with a full skirt from there on the advice of this forum and they’re reasonably priced.

@drspouse Oh thank-you for the info on that dress - I've been eyeballing the gold one up for ages and that might be the spur to get it (also only £23). Am 5'3" so hopefully it'll be decently mid-length on me.

drspouse · 25/11/2024 21:52

Happy to help! I ordered another one in green that looks like a tent on me.

Hoppinggreen · 25/11/2024 21:55

Does it have to be a dress?
There are a lot of very wide legged trousers/palazzo pants around at the moment, they might go over the brace

I went to our local shopping centre today and picked up a beautiful sparkly black maxi dress in quiz for £24.99. Was able to try it on with the brace and it works well as it’s a wrap over style skirt.
