Which shoes with this frock?

I have an evening do at work (posh hotel, dinner, dancing after) which, frankly, I am dreading. My normal fashion style is a custom leggings/tshirts/dog hair combo which, whilst unique to me, is not suitable for the event.

I spent a panicked morning yesterday in town dress shopping before stumbling into Phase Eight where an incredibly helpful sales person pulled about a million dresses for me to try on. Things I seriously never thought would suit. I've ended up buying this: https://www.phase-eight.com/product/trudy-black-sequin-velvet-shift-dress-222513050.html#navAjax=true&is=true&cgid=party&sz=60&start=0&isSecondPage=false&prefn1=color&prefv1=Black&pid=222513050&pos=4

I love it. It's sparkly. It hides the perimenopausal bulges. It's comfy. It makes me feel fun and partyish. It is, however, very short.

I own no suitable shoes. I need to buy shoes. In the shop, I tried on a pair of silver shoes that looked fabulous with it (albeit I'd never have been able to walk in them, so won't be buying that particular pair). Silver shoes would mean bare legs? Or at least neutral legs? My natural skin tone at this time of year is wall-paper paste, so the colour contrast with the dress is much higher than for the model. Style wise I think it works but I repeat work do, short...

If you were me would you go for fun silver shoes? Or black tights and black shoes? The latter feels the safe but boring choice.

Style gurus, help?

I love shoe embassy shoes! I'm quite happy to go with chunky heels with this though, just not as high as the ones I tried on with the dress. It's a question of black with black tights, or silver with bare legs.

Oh ffs.
Are the links working for you @Motorina
I don't know what's going on. I'm on my phone so limited in sorting it out.

Motorina · 24/11/2024 10:26

@heldinadream yes, links are working. Thank you.

Can you see the ones I posted? They aren't plain black they've got amazing embellishments so would look as good, IMHO, as silver, but allow you the black tights.

heldinadream · 24/11/2024 10:27

😂

LetThereBeLove · 24/11/2024 10:29

Those particular Embassy shoes are too heavy and clumpy for that dress imo. I'd stick with silver and light coloured tights.

Motorina · 24/11/2024 10:36

@StormingNorman yes, that's the sort of look I have in my head (just not so high a heel).

Loving the use of the word 'frock'. Haven't heard that used regularly since my grandma, who died in 1983! 😁

KlaraSundown · 24/11/2024 11:06

Does the shop stock the shoes in the photo?

I would go for those or similar, with the best quality sheer dark tights you can buy.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 24/11/2024 11:11

Have a look at esska, they do closed toes and are so comfy

LetThereBeLove · 24/11/2024 16:36

These are lovely!

These are very 'on trend' ATM, and would give you extra coverage when it is the work do. You can add on black cycling style shorts too for reassurance!
Flat black velvet shoes would look great. 60s style, how about these? https://fhwt.app.link/aMTnlFjFMOb
Next have loads - flat, kitten and block heels.

Have a lovely time!

These take me back a long time! They would look fab with that dress.

Motorina · 24/11/2024 19:57

@LetThereBeLove I hadn't even thought about the possibility of flats. Thank you.

@KlaraSundown probably yes, but the heels are too tall and skinny for me.

To update, after a frustrating hour slogging round town, I picked up a pair of patent black slingbacks in tkmaxx. They're not the ones in the link (and, yes, I know that's matalan), but are pretty similar, although they only have one strap instead of two. I think they work. They were also cheap enough that I don't feel resentful, given I'm unlikely to wear them again.
