Dress code: Hats

I've just received an invitation to a party in a village hall tonight, (I'm not offended that it's last minute) - but it says dress,: HATS.

It's flipping freezing here but I don't think it means woolly hats!

Can anyone help me, please?

It's not the norm for women to wear hats in the evening but as it's a village hall maybe they do mean woolly hats as it might be cold in there!

Ok, thanks. It's actually pretty warm in there with infrared heating, but yes maybe you're right!
I don't know if it's jeans and a pretty top, or wearing a dress though

I'd guess it either means woolly hats in acknowledgement the hall is freezing or dramatic comedy hats - personally I'd include woolly hats in this.

We once had an invite to a village hall function that said 'dress to impress ' only DH never mentioned that and later claimed he didn't know what it meant.

Got there and all the other women were in ball gowns and I was wearing jeans and a hoodie. It didn't matter after a few glasses of wine but I have not trusted DH since

I'd have to ask the organisers. What sort of party is it?
