Long warm waterproof coat

Whyisitsodifficult · 19/11/2024 23:02

Does such a thing exist!? I have a great waterproof but it’s not long, my long winter coat isn’t waterproof.

Ideally it would be calf length, totally waterproof, lightweight, warm, detachable hood, thumb cutouts and not black!

Any ideas?

Have you tried Holland Cooper or Rains?

Just looked at Rains as not heard of them, nothing suitable but some of the outfits gave me a laugh! Nothing in Holland Cooper thanks

https://www.trespass.com/womens-casual-jacket-audrey

I have this one it is water proof, thermal lined so warm but not to bulky, I’m 5ft 4 and it’s sits about 1 inch above my ankle so longer than calf length but I am in no way tall.

Unfortunately too short

@lighthouse26 too short for me!

Yes the padded legs are hilarious! My husband has a Rains coat for football - actually looks much more normal than the website would suggest, and is properly waterproof.

@holidayinsurancehell ticks boxes but I don’t like the cape like extra around the shoulders! Sorry thanks for recommendations everyone.

@Toooldtopretend I’m a football mum and I’d love to rock up in a two piece puffer set, must be super cosy!

Jack Murphy are my go to.

Hmm some potential here, is the quality good do you know?

@Whyisitsodifficult are you very tall? I only ask because the trespass coat is pretty much touches the top of my ankle boot at 5ft 4. I have posted a picture of the waterproof rating and thermal lining info.

Well 5’8”. Looking at the model it sits around her knee so assume she’s probably same height or taller.

I bought a dry robe and it's the best money I ever spent.

Mittens67 · 21/11/2024 11:44

I have an ancient Drizabone austrailan stockman’s coat which meets your requirements.
Not sure if they are still available?

holidayinsurancehell · 21/11/2024 14:12

I'm 5ft7 and the Trespass one comes below my knees but certainly nowhere near ankle length! I would suggest investing in some really good long leather fur lined boots (look at Durbarry or for a slightly cheaper but still decent option Ariat ) my feet & lower legs are positively toasty even on the coldest of days so don't need coat protection down to my ankles which makes walking much easier!

This is only water repellent which is different from waterproof

It does say that but I read the reviews and a lot of people saying it kept them dry in torrential rain. I also wore it in the rain at the weekend and was dry underneath.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 21/11/2024 20:01

I recently bought this and love it. It's lovely and warm. I'm an inch shorter than you @Whyisitsodifficult and ordered tall so it's longer than in the picture. It hasn't got thumbholes though. There's 25% off right now.

I like them. But I’m not sure they are 100% waterproof as sometimes the backs of my arms get damp. And they don’t like barbed wire.

But I walk the dog three times a day in all weathers in the Pennines and they do me.

YoureOnMute · 22/11/2024 13:50

I have a Sweaty Betty Nimbus longline puffer and it's great - really warm, massive hood and water resistant. Mine has thumb holes but it's last year's version; they've made some updates to this year's so they may have removed that feature.

Rains coats are amazing. I haven’t been on the website recently so can’t comment on the outfits. I have a short one but they do a long version. I spent a long time looking for the holy grail coat that is waterproof (properly,). Very warm and windproof. This was the only one (apart from ski jackets) that fitted the bill.

Delatron · 22/11/2024 14:41

I’f be wary of anything water resistant if you are looking for full on water proof.

See attached photo for Rains coat spec - so good.

I second this one, it's so warm and cozy for when I watch my son play rugby. Best thing I've bought so far this winter!

Didriksons

EatTrout · 22/11/2024 15:08

I have a didriksons - just be careful you don't get one of the A shaped coats as they are less warm (though super roomy and great for walking). They say in the description what the fit is like so you can check that. They are great coats I have to say.

Which Rains coat is it please @Delatron ?

I have this in the black and love it, has little thumb holes too.

Wtafisgoingontoday · 23/11/2024 18:04

I've got the Barbour Roe coat. It's long, warm, lightweight, waterproof and windproof - great for dog walking or shopping in the rain!
