Claudia Winkleman’s style

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 18/11/2024 10:26

I really like how Claudia dresses but she’s a completely different shape to me and I don’t have long hair.

Any ideas of where to buy her type of clothes? She always looks classy and well put together even though she mostly wears plain colours and simple shapes. Is it just money and being thin?

Good Lord above! Are clothing choices dictated by how much hair you have on your head?? Well, that’s me sunk. Better throw everything away …

And I honestly cannot see how being a size 8, 18, or 28 can make a difference to whether a person wears a tweed jacket, or wrist warmers, or a huge gold muumuu.

Seriously?

Really, you can’t see how body size and shape will change how clothes look on that body?

NunyaBeeswax · 18/11/2024 11:03

She often looks amazing.

I don't know how relevant the links in the article are now, it from January.

Let's not forget though, she has a stylists and make up department. If I tried to wear the exact same wellies, jumper and scarf .. I'd be put in't top field to scare t'crows.. 🤪

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 18/11/2024 11:05

Claudia’s hair (long/shiny/heavy fringe) is very much part of her look so I think it’s relevant. Likewise she is very slim and I’m not so what suits her may not be the most flattering on me. I’m sure I can manage some wrist-warmers though 🙄

Do you seriously not think that your body size and shape plus how you were your hair will make you look difficult in clothes to other body shapes? Really?

Why do people get annoyed on here when people mention body shape? There was a thread a few weeks ago about a skirt and whether the style would suit the OP. Those who suggested not got their arse handed to them on a plate.

I'm now a menopausal middle aged woman with a belly and fairly ample arse. The clothes that suited me even a couple of years ago no longer flatter my shape. Yes of course I could still wear those styles if I chose to. It's completely up to me. But I'd be kidding myself if I thought that I looked as good on in them now as I did then.

Thank you @NunyaBeeswax, for getting it and for the link.

I do think her hair is a large part of her style and recall reading somewhere that hair is 50% of how you look in the eyes of others. If you really like her style, could you grow your hair out?

Oh hurrah, another 'everyone can wear everything' genius on style and beauty 😂

GinnyW · 18/11/2024 15:27

I have recently bought the Brora skirt that she wore in Traitors. It is a slightly different colour this year but I love it. If it helps, I have shoulder length blonde hair and am a size 10 in my mid 50’s.

Daisydoesnt · 18/11/2024 17:30

OP it may seem off-topic but have you ever read up about Kibbe body types? I LOVE Claudia’s style and think she’s a Gamine: she certainly plays up to some of the gamine signifiers with that thick fringe, emphasis on her huge eyes and quirky style. In the Independent link upthread she’s even standing slightly pigeon toed, really leaning in to that gamine look (Twiggy - another gamine - used to do the same).

I’d focus on a simple, high contrast colour palette (she wears lots of monochrome), tailoring, or garments clothes that have a bit of structure to them (ie no floppy or drapey fabrics), fitted items but also oversized items for that bit of drama. I’ve found Agnes B and Me+Em good hunting grounds.

edited to add: OP is it her Traitors look or the evening-y, Strictly vibe that you like? Or both?

zaxxon · 18/11/2024 18:02

She doesn't actually choose her own clothes in either of those programmes, surely?

loverofpants · 18/11/2024 18:05

You can follow her stylist on instagram she's called Sinead mckeefry and always lists what items Claud is wearing (expensive thought!)

CheeseandMarmiteToastie · 18/11/2024 19:05

I think I just like her style in general, more so the Traitors and I loved her wardrobe in The Piano - I dont have much of a need for evening/glam stuff. It’s the simple shapes, the quality, the slight quirkiness without looking ‘wacky’ - I see a lot of people my age who are going for the Lucy and Yak/Joanie Clothing type look and although I like bits from both it can feel a bit try-hard. Claudia’s look is so effortless - at least the stylist makes it look that way!

Funnily enough I had one of those style days years ago and was told I’m a Gamine, I definitely veer towards a fitted slightly androgynous look and look awful in anything floaty or unstructured.

It looks ultra styled and contrived.

I’ve never suggested they couldn’t. I do, however, contend, fairly uncontroversially, that clothes look entirely different on different types of body. I have large breasts, for instance, and would look like a boiler wearing a lagging jacket in several of those outfits.

You really wouldn't , but up to you.

Not directed at you, but I hate, hate , hate the negativity on here- the "that's only wearable if you're a model/ 18/ tall/ young/ it makes me look....

There's nothing difficult or challenging about any of the stuff Claudia Winkelman is wearing.

MorrisZapp · 18/11/2024 21:30

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 18/11/2024 21:05

Of course anyone can wear skirts, coats and jumpers. But if you've been inspired to wear this particular style by a tall, slim, heavily made up woman with very thick long dark hair, your mileage may vary. I mean the pigeon woman in Home Alone 2 probably got her coat from Crombie.

highlandcoo · 18/11/2024 22:05

OP I think you are spot on here and have a great understanding of Claudia's style. I really like it too. Dark Academia is my ideal however this gamine look is fab too; less fanciful, and more achievable for everyday style.

But where to buy it? COS might be worth a look. Celtic and Co are excellent for a kilted skirt. I have one and wear it loads.

https://www.celticandco.com/womens/clothing/kilts/midi-celt-kilt?colour=723

Big jumpers? Some upmarket outdoors shops can be good. Or Toast?

https://www.toa.st/products/orla-donegal-wool-sweater-mimosa-yellow

or this kind of thing?

https://www.peregrineclothing.co.uk/products/bearing-full-jumper?variant=45463883284719&currency=GBP&tw_source=google&tw_adid=712592846378&tw_campaign=21668035422&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADpcDJk1lGAmlp1PSaLZpnjmpXWvM&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6Ou5BhCrARIsAPoTxrBb9J9mFzE07L0noC_zozkSojlI80lUg_J5J6a619Bk7q3j7Sdpqf4aAjCIEALw_wcB

And I agree with those who've pointed out that it's not super helpful, when a poster is asking for advice, to be told everyone can wear anything. We don't come here to have that explained. We already know.

@highlandcoo I actually love the Dark Academia style as well but it feels ever so slightly too dramatic for me - I do enjoy reading the threads about it though.

highlandcoo · 19/11/2024 09:24

Yes we’ve had some great chats on our three (!) DA threads over the months. I must resurrect the last one actually.
Thanks for nailing Claudia’s style so clearly.. it’s clarified part of what I’m aiming for myself 😊

Shejustkonws · 19/11/2024 10:20

I love that look. I'm in my late 50's now but had a kilt and boots at college a zillion years ago!

Ljbjkgvh · 19/11/2024 11:19

Of course different body types suit different things. Am short, mid-40s and size six. But am also an inverted triangle so massive jumpers with a round neck look terrible on me. So whilst I could certainly adapt Claudia's wardrobe by wearing thin jumpers with wide leg trousers that's not exactly the same look.
