I'm looking for a very warm coat- I'm always cold so would like to know your warmest coat recommendations. Thank you

You can get heated ones where you plug it in to what is basically a small power bank that you can also charge a phone with. They give out some extra heat, though tend to only last a few hours so if you are outside for a very long time then it might not be that good. I know Regatta do some.

BathsAreBliss · 17/11/2024 15:20

Mountain warehouse Isla 2 coat - honestly the warmest I have ever been. It’s comfy and not hugely bulky - I’ve just ordered a second!

CMOTDibbler · 17/11/2024 15:30

The Lands End maxi expedition coat is the warmest I have ever had, super toasty. I do have a Regatta Voltera jacket which uses power banks to heat it (and you can use any power bank and swap them over so no time restriction) and it is great if you will be sitting/standing around in the cold so not generating warmth, but isn't very warm in its own right and my arms get cold.

What's your budget?

My RAB puffer is the warmest coat I have ever owned.

Also my dryrobe for dog walking and watching the kids sports is really useful. I am probably a Dryrobe Wanker 😂

yesbutnobut · 17/11/2024 16:03

North Face Arctic parka is sooo warm - I love it

CanteringAlong · 17/11/2024 16:05

Thank you all. I have seen different companies selling DryRobe coats. Are they very warm too or just good for waterproofing? At 5'2 I'm wondering if I'll be swamped by them?

Super dry long puffer. Absolutely amazing and I got mine on sale for £90. You don't need anything but Tshirttandnleggings underneath

I have this rab.equipment/uk/women-s-deep-cover-parka?srsltid=AfmBOorfp43aHqr-CX5T2v4q2fnLs5f4_lLk7jukXOkoAZzuH1DxiXyR

You can get it cheaper, it's exceptionally warm, definitely recommend

avaritablevampire · 17/11/2024 16:21

Warm, waterproof and windproof or just warm?
Down coats will always be exceptionally warm, but whilst some are water resistant ie showerproof, very few cope with torrential rain, and only check the outer fabric for wind proofing. If you're looking for a good commuting coat, which is warm with good enough waterproofing to keep you dry in heavy but short down pour and windproof then the Landsend stadium coat is a good call, they do a petite range so won't swamp you.
If you want something warm and sufficiently waterproof to be out in torrential rain then you'd do well with an integrated coat system ie gortex (or similar) outer coat, and padded inner coat, North face, Berghaus, marmot, RAB, Helly Hanson and Jack Wolfskin all do this type of coat designed for proper rugged outdoor wear, but comes with a hefty price tag.

IkaBaar · 17/11/2024 16:23

In addition to the brands above have you looked at Didriksons? I love my Didriksons’ duvet coat.

SPSN · 17/11/2024 16:23

Last Winter I got a Superdry long Everest puffer coat and it's the warmest coat I've ever had. Much warmer than my down coat.

I paid £160 so the bargains are their

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 17/11/2024 16:25

Love my Didrikson. I wore it in -25c in Lapland.

avaritablevampire · 17/11/2024 16:27

Dry robes aren't brilliant, they were really designed for surfers / outdoor swimmers for short duration whilst changing out of wetsuits / swimming togs into clothing. I have one for after diving, I love it for this, but i wouldn't recommend for dog walking / commuting, not least because it's not particularly breathable so you'd get sweaty very quickly, as soon as you start exercising (or just exerting yourself walking!)

CanteringAlong · 17/11/2024 16:31

which didrikson was good in lapland please?

CanteringAlong · 17/11/2024 16:40

My nirth face artic parka is so warm it barely gets used, but when it's needed it's perfect. I ordered a size or two up so i could easily wear any knitwear, but it's not needed!

unsync · 17/11/2024 17:01

I wouldn't bother with a Dryrobe unless you need one for sport type reason.

Get a Landsend Expedition coat. I've worn them in a blizzard in Norway when it was -15°c. They are windproof and very warm. I have the long version and the parka length. Both are excellent. If you are short, the parka is probably best. I'm 162cm and the longer one reaches to mid calf on me.

sparkleroo · 17/11/2024 22:56

Another vote for Didrikson. I have 4 Didriksons. Warm, windproof, waterproof. Amazing coats!

sparkleroo · 17/11/2024 22:59

I buy my Didricksons from here. Free shipping free returns etc. I've returned to this place too with no issues.

WeRateSquirrels · 18/11/2024 07:44

I also love my Didriksons. Have bought several online, directly from them (I do not live in Belgium!).

Thwart · 18/11/2024 07:48

The vintage sheepskin coat my nana gave me is my warmest thing.

I also have a heated vest which is wonderful. I work outdoors and it’s perfect for chilly mornings when I would otherwise struggle to get started.

urbanbuddha · 18/11/2024 07:53

Elvine. They’re expensive but mine was reduced and I’m always super toasty.
