A-line wool / wool blend coat < £300 (size 18/20)

I'm a tall (5'11") pear shape and have really struggled to find a smart-ish winter coat the past few years. There are still lots of boxy / boyfriend styles around which are either too big on my shoulders and waist or won't fit over my hips. I'm currently losing weight and losing fairly quickly, so can't justify spending more than £300, ideally a bit less.

Colourwise, I'm looking for navy, camel, a pinky beige or possibly a dark or olive green. No black. Nothing belted. Knee-length or slightly shorter. Additional complication: I'm in the EU, so need international shipping.

I've just returned a Boden Durham coat in navy (pic attached) as it looked a bit too formal and staid on me, but something along those lines in a slightly more casual fit.

Has anyone seen a coat that might fit the bill? TIA!

I got mine off Ebay, its Jaegar. Couldn't afford a brand new one!

GlitterBallss · 13/11/2024 13:33

Reiss?
Jigsaw?
Mango?

FunnysInLaJardin · 13/11/2024 13:41

John Lewis? I have a mac which is identical to your photo which I bought from JL a few years ago. They may do them in wool too

Angrymum22 · 13/11/2024 13:41

Jaeger do some classic coats. I managed to source a brand new with tags on Vinted last year. It is a beautiful camel coat. 100% wool. They tend to continue these lines for years.

Just checked on Vinted and there are two size 20 one navy one camel both with tags £130-160 rrp is £299.
Not sure if they will post to EU though.

Thanks, everyone.

I have looked at Reiss, Jigsaw and Mango, but couldn't find anything that would fit the bill. Everything seems to be a straight cut that, unfortunately, just doesn't work with my outsized hips. Definitely needs to be A-line / flared / trapeze / swing for me.

I was under the impression that John Lewis doesn't deliver to the EU anymore but will double-check. Don't really want to go down the eBay or Vinted route as I'd like a hassle-free return option.

I like the M&S coat linked by Angrymum22 but the word 'boyfriend coat' usually means it will be very much the wrong shape for me, unfortunately.

I got one like this recently which is lovely and quite a classic silhouette.
This is the Irish website but I’m sure you can click to the UK one. It’s “brown belted wrap coat”

VictorianScreenTime · 13/11/2024 13:59

Sorry just seen you didn’t want it belted!!

FoggyNovember · 13/11/2024 14:43

I like your River Island coat, VictorianScreenTime! Used to love a belted coat, but at my current weight, they sadly just don't look right on me - like a sack of spuds wearing a dressing gown!

Seasalt Woodcabin coat, I have one from a couple of years ago and I'm 5'10 and it's long enough. Looks like they deliver overseas.

This looks good, although I don't particularly love any of the colours they currently have. May try the houndstooth or dark teal. The item description says it's a straight rather than an A-line fit, but I'll compare the measurements with something I already have and see if it could work. Thank you!

I've been looking at the wood cabin and love it - it's not overly a line but I'm pear shaped and it fits well. Seasalt also has 20% off atm! There's some past season versions on vinted which I'm also stalking. I like the emerald green.

BobnLen · 14/11/2024 09:41

There is a couple on eBay from Seasalt outlet shop, colours may be more suitable, I have bought from there before and it's all good, don't know about overseas delivery though from the eBay shop

I was going yo say charity shop.
I recently got a beautiful grey jigsaw coat '- i could afford a new jigsaw coat now but it would be the same quality or materials.
I also got a vintage woods of Windsor coat in serge blue wool and I LOVE it! £20
