What boots for Europe

Bella1905 · 11/11/2024 14:07

Hi all, I will be travelling in Europe for about 10 days in December and won't be able to pack much so was thinking since it will be very cold or just wearing one pair of boots the whole time. I want something practical and comfortable that is ideally at least a little stylish too but I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any recommendations? Perhaps walking boots but I don't want something heavy. Many thanks

I fin Jones Bookmaker very narrow and if you have wider feet M&S do a similar one in wide ( size down though)
Which part of Europe are you going to there's a huge difference between Norway and Southern Spain. If you're going somewhere cold thick soles keep you feet of the cold ground.

I love my sorel Joan explorer boots for winter breaks in Europe or Christmas markets here. They do many styles of winter tee boots though if you refer something different!

The boots which the poster linked to were Gabor, not Jones. They were bought there. Gabor boots are very comfortable - and those do look stylish.

I agree with you re thicker soles if the weather does change. Something like this would keep your feet warmer.

I took these on a trip to Norway. Utterly brilliant, the Slip in Tech is spot on.
I got them in store, paid less than web price.

These! I get so many compliments on them, they’re stylish rather than super chunky like most DMs, and you can walk in them for miles and miles. I’ve had mine about five years and they’re still doing amazingly www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/emmeline-smooth-leather-lace-up-boots-black/p/32219001?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD7dLuim_l_ksF2JgwDj9QglQSksF&gclid=Cj0KCQiAlsy5BhDeARIsABRc6Zt4XglFR8i1bRZUfL82VxKsV7FjRnxWuUz7sYuAf0V0QaOOdpIeMlEaAnxmEALw_wcB

Europe is a very big place. Might be good to specify a bit more on where you will going and what you will be doing there.

i had a pair of those and although they are a sleeker take on the DM boot, the quality is not great. The soles were not at all durable.
I'd get a pair of Solovairs instead (which is exactly what I did).
NPS Solovair | Womens Boots, Shoes & Loafers | Made in England – Tagged "Boot" – NPS Solovair UK
A big plus is that they do half-sizes and cover a wide range of sizes (3-13 in many styles)

I have no affiliation with the company other than I own several pairs of their shoes.

I’ve found the soles to be super durable! Solovair is also a good brand though

KirstenBlest · 12/11/2024 12:19

Maybe I got a duff pair, but I wore them indoors a handful of times in an office job (wore trainers for the commute as I wanted my lovely new boots to be pristine), and the soles were obviously wearing down.
I was dismayed so I thought I might as well get rid. Put all my DMs on ebay and bought Solovairs instead. They're great. I still fancy the Barbours upthread Smile
I need a massive clearout of boots and shoes I don't wear.

I love DMs, but the soles are lethal on snow and ice.

And it won't even necessarily be that cold.

If I'd taken my DMs as my only pair of footwear I wouldn't have been able to leave the hotel. They were cripplingly painful.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 12/11/2024 14:12

Have a look at bareback Quebecs. They can't me in different heights and are really comfortable. I am coveting the zip up ankle boots at the moment as mine are higher and pull on.

CrushingOnRubies · 12/11/2024 14:14

What are you planning on doing and where?

Skiing in the alps or wondering around Athens or both?

KirstenBlest · 12/11/2024 14:39

What are you planning on doing and where?
Are you going hiking, or just wandering about? Seaside, hills, city...? Which parts of Europe?
I'd wear lace-ups not chelsea boots.

usernother · 12/11/2024 16:10

Are you an American OP? They tend to class Europe as one country when in fact it's lots of very different countries. Travelling in Finland and Norway will require different footwear to travelling in Southern Spain or Malta.

Ineedanotherheropreferablyatwix · 12/11/2024 16:16

If all you're doing is walking then get a good pair of walking boots and start breaking them in from yesterday.

Clarice99 · 12/11/2024 16:19

Blundstone boots are really comfortable.

I second Solovair. I find Solovair superior to DM's.

Blundstone boots do not need 'breaking in'. Solovair do (in my experience).

WomenInConstruction · 12/11/2024 17:35

I second the sorel ones

ihaveliterallynoidea · 12/11/2024 17:48

Europe isn't a country - so in Norway you most likely will be wearing very different boots from those in the south of Portugal.
