Pre-loved winter coats

Having not bought any new winter coats since before Covid, I've just invested in a new Seasalt rainproof coat for nursery runs and general everyday practical coat.

I now turn my attention to my need for a new wool coat, which will get way less wear as I mostly work from home. It will be for smarter occasions, drinks out and the odd work thing. The only smart outerwear I currently own is a wool pea coat which is in excellent condition but is very thick and oversized and would like something more streamlined, but that I can still wear a jumper under.

Torn between a belted wool jacket or a more tailored blazer style. Been looking at Zara, Jigsaw and John Lewis.

I don't want to spend much as it's only going to be worn occasionally so budget maybe £50. Would rather find a decent secondhand one from a good brand rather than buying a new but cheap, lower quality coat.

Any brand recommendations I can scour Vinted for?

I have a lovely Hobbs belted wool coat that I bought in the sale last year for £200, reduced from about £400, would recommend.

Browsing charity shops I have seen a number of high street brands that produced wool coats with a high wool content so I would suggest brands that are t on the high street any longer.

I got a wool Laura Ashley coat from Oxfam online. It’s worth a look on there.

Hobbs, Windsmoor Alexon, Preçis, Acquescutom . You might hit on lucky with high street like h&m , Bhs, C&a, marksies ( particularly st Michael) Next from bygone years.

Don't neglect Ebay either, there are various prevloved clothing retailers, including charities who sell via that platform .
I got my Preçis coat from Ebay.

It's old but my coat is from Country Casuals. It has taped seams and button backs ( little buttons on the inside of the cot that the large outer ones are sewn onto.

Last year I got a long black wool/cashmere long coat in mint condition from a charity shop for £10!

I've bought a couple of wool coats on ebay from m and s, all good.

They have actually lasted longer than a new coat bought last year which went all bobbly after a few months use.

A decent wool coat is one of the few items that keeps its value and can be reliably purchased second hand. If you are familiar with the brand/ sizing.

Viyella, Planet, Alex&Co, Jacques Vert, Jaeger are some others to check out. I would also filter the material for wool, cashmere.
