I am an old person though I don't like admitting it. I like to look nice but as DH would say 'you look best when your warm and comfy', I'm not going to disagree with him even if he does wander around looking like Compo half the time.

On reflection, I think I may have been pushing the Edwardian librarian look a little too far...

I’ve swapped the tank for my Arket cardigan (£87) 😂

I don’t mind the Compo look! I think it’s quite hot (not actually ON Compo, but on a ruggedly handsome landscape gardener/Sean Bean as Mellors type…).

He’s 13 😂.

My dd (15) wrote ‘I advise that you don’t wear that French hat, it looks bad’ in my birthday card this year - they are very honest when it comes to this sort of thing (and it’s a family tradition to ‘roast’ each other in birthday cards!).

I love it so much! I try not to overwear it - I've about 6 other midi dresses that I tend to wheel out instead.

Jack Wills joggers, £35? Old!

I've been undecided about keeping my FOUR (!) new alpaca sweaters, and finally opted for Yes. I had some as a child and had forgotten about goat hair's itchy quality, remembering only the softness and fluffy/hairy appearance. Nostalgia won, on the basis that I didn't mind at 7 so I'll get used to it at 70 😏

Today, then, I'm softly itchy in this jumper from La Redoute, £32.50, with black Amazon leggings, £8. This would be great with black ankle boots but I haven't chosen them yet, so old trainers & old socks it is!

Total £40 and maybe £50 for the trainers when new. Going to The Outdoors in my trusty £15 cotton jacket.

Such a comfort thread! Dh is disgruntled, because he's not well so a major operation he's been waiting for for 2 years was postponed a month, because of the cold, and work has just rocketed into overdrive.

DS is back helping out the family enterprise and has had an unwelcome message from an old flame out of the blue.

I shopped (for food) like a demon today so am pretty much set for the holidays and was hoping for a chill day with everyone and a gentle weekend before the festivities, which I am organising.

So today's 'I can do it all outfit' has been
Me&Em black cargo trousers, from the January sale, about £50.
A shamefully expensive grey and black striped cashmere polo jumper... call it £320, but I like it and wear it lots.
Yellow ochre Andia Fora trainers, from an outlet site, about £70. Fingerless gloves (today's are pale olive green) and a shooting coat with lots of pockets.

DH decided R4 was too much so changed to R3. I loathe classical music and the hushed voices of reverence for it. It's like everylasting funeral music. Sorry, bit of a vent.

Garlicpest · 20/12/2024 20:33

I'm finding this thread soothing as well, @Papyrophile. I hope we'll continue it as this one's nearly full! You do seem to be facing multiple challenges atm; good luck and may your cashmere stripes deliver peace & love as well as energetic competence!

Papyrophile · 20/12/2024 20:47

Thank you @Garlicpest . I needed to read your reply. I'm pretty much retired from formal work, but when asked what I do all day... I am the oil in the machine that makes all the parts work (mostly) smoothly.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/12/2024 21:15

Today was a tidy up day after three days in court. Did some work, went on a prescription hunt for dd's adhd meds, had the odd job man round, generally pottered.

Ancient jeggings £39
Seasalt top, reduced £29
On trend cable cardigan £89
Fine cashmere gauze stole (as scarf) £119
Sheepskin slippers £65 ish? (Drapers)
Boots when I went out: £180
JL coat bought for £50 in covid (was £189)

Tootles off to look up Cabbages and Roses. Would like new coat and haven't seen anything I like for a few years.
