I just looked it up. 0.09ct diamond. It's a commercial marketing ploy to get the aspirational to part with their money.

I'm sorry op but I think it's overpriced and a bit of a rip-off. You could have got a better piece for less money from a local jeweller. Or a second hand cartier piece.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 29/10/2024 20:36

The white gold is so much nicer. However, and that said, I agree with @RosesAndHellebores for the same money, you can buy a much better diamond necklace elsewhere. You're paying for the Cartier name, the actual jewellery value is a few hundred pounds at most.

Libertydestiny · 29/10/2024 21:02

I have not bought it yet , please can you tell me where to find a very similar one for less money , same carat and on 18 carat chain . I’m planning to part with my money in mid / end November so a few weeks to keep looking i appreciate your help Thank you

Search for a "rub over" diamond necklace. Lots come up for a much lower price point.

I couldn't agree more. You are putting your money into a brand name - and one that has been somewhat devalued in recent years.

You could put your money into the weight of precious metal and quality stones instead and get a really decent piece for your money.

That’s nice but it’s not like for like as gold vermeil, not solid.

RosesAndHellebores · 30/10/2024 07:48

@ForPearlViper just out of interest, why has Cartier devalued in recent years?

This. You definitely can get a better solid gold and diamond necklace for the price, but the Monica Vinader one is not solid gold, so it can't be compared.

IslandSkies · 30/10/2024 10:19

@Libertydestiny not aware Cartier doesn’t hold it’s value, for example, I have a Maillon Panthere ring 3 rows in white gold and diamonds bought 18 years ago for £2,800, it is now worth £8,000. Similar story with their bracelets, I don’t own a necklace from them. Their customer service is very good.

GinnyPiggie · 30/10/2024 11:35

The cartier one is rather cute I think, but the diamond is so small that I think it will really just look like a gold chain. But I think it's rather sweet for what it is.

Libertydestiny · 30/10/2024 13:40

Going to think it over , not keen on the oval one but thank you for showing , and the other one like someone said is not like for like.

Go see a local jeweller and get one made, better yet, go to a diamond dealer in one of the big cities and they will be able to help you. Just show them a picture of the one you like. You'll get a better diamond for your money.

It's also worth looking at online pawn brokers and the diamond dealers on Hatton Garden as they'll all offer similar - the Cartier necklace is a fairly standard style.

It's not that Cartier doesn't hold its value per se, it's the name. Also, it's about production numbers. Older styles are more valuable because less were made. And while your ring might cost £8,000 now, it won't cost that to make. It's true value is about the third of that.

Edited to add that I bought a Cartier Tank in 2025 for £1450. The watch is now £3300 (I think). The watch doesn't cost any more to make, and while inflation can count for a little as to why it has doubled in cost, it's not that at all, it's about rising prices in the luxury sector in an attempt to keep it luxurious 🙄

Laveritas · 30/10/2024 13:58

Ooh I’d go for the Cartier 😍 nothing better than a little red box!! 🥰

EmeraldRoulette · 30/10/2024 14:27

OP I love the necklace you're interested in

I perked up when someone mentioned cheaper alternatives but that one isn't gold of course

i often see posters say about using a local jeweller but I'm not sure what that means.

Does it mean to find a designer and isn't that more expensive?

my local jeweller sells pricey things and the Hot Diamonds brand. I'd like to buy myself a necklace like this but I don't know what a normal price would be.

hope that's not hijacking the thread, OP maybe you'll get some more suggestions too.

endofthecorridoor · 30/10/2024 14:45

Not sure if this allowed but my mum has worked for this jewelers that are really local but specialize in diamonds and second hand diamonds. if its the stone you want Bescoby Jewelers Oldham. They sell lots of brands including Cartier pre-loved. have a look on Facebook they are amazing.
