Vinted Question

Hi.
I bought an item from Vinted a week ago last Friday. I had a message from the seller very soon after including a photo of the postage label.
Since then, nothing. There hasn't been a tracking update or any further info.
I messaged the seller last week to ask if they had any tracking info. After not getting a reply, I went on the seller's profile and it appears they have been blocked.
On my profile it does say that the item has been sent - but, as I say, nothing has happened since.
I have a couple of questions: if the status says he item has been sent, can I trust that? ie is that an automated response, triggered from the parcel being taken by the post office/courier? If nothing happens and I don't get the parcel, will I be able to get a refund?
I'm new to this, as you might be able to tell 😂
Thanks

I've had the same
Seconds after purchasing the seller sent me a photo of the Royal Mail label
Then item becomes unavailable to view and the seller is blocked
Vinted "help" says basically to wait, if the item doesn't arrive within the alloted time frame then the same will be cancelled and you'll get a refund
Gutted as it means you have to wait about 1.5/2 weeks for this to happen

Check out the Vinted subreddit.

Unfortunately there's been a lot of scammers recently whose trick is to send a fake postage label almost as soon as you've purchased. I'm afraid it sound like you're a victim of one of these.

I'd try getting in touch with Vinted Customer Service to see if you can get a refund. However Vinted CS are not brilliant and they can take a long time to get back to you.

What does the message saying item sent look like? Is it a message from Vinted or the seller? If from the seller then it's likely a scam. Perhaps take a screenshot (blocking out info) and pop it here so we can help further 🙂

Thanks, everyone. Screenshot below...

It's a scam ( not sure how it works). I've had it with two items. Just waiting for vinted to refund me ( items purchased on 12/10)

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 28/10/2024 09:12

I had this and thought it was odd to get the label so quickly but no response to the message I sent - had purchased something in the middle of the night. This made me think there was something off/made me a little paranoid, so took the sender's address from the label and googled it - it was a different address from the other details that matched the RM tracking details. Additionally, further googling showed many results to say it was a scam address. I sent all this information to Vinted and they refunded me immediately.

Piggles1979 · 28/10/2024 09:35

@chickenlettuceunderbacon thanks for the tip.
I googled the seller's address -it's a warehouse associated with scamming!
Took a screenshot and have sent to Vinted.
Hopefully a refund will be on its way....

Happy to be of service!

My DD has ordered quite a bit from Vinted and I don't think she's ever had a mailing label emailed to her. I mean what does that prove anyway?

paristotokyo · 28/10/2024 12:00

This happened to me too. If Royal Mail is chosen then proof of delivery needs to be sent which scammers seem to send 0.3 secs after purchasing which is very unrealistic. Vinted refunded me after a few days of me reporting.

NewspaperDoll · 28/10/2024 13:59

How does the scam work though? The seller doesn’t get your money until you’ve said the item has been received and is as described 🤔

It's so you can track it if it doesn't turn up. Proof they've sent it.

Edited

I assume they are hoping some people will miss the 48 hr window Vinted gives buyers to report a problem? In theory with Royal Mail you gave to wait 25 days for it to be declared lost and then report it within the next 48 hr.

I had this happen too and was eventually able to get a refund after reporting it to customer service but they were slow to respond and often just answered by a robot or AI with meaningless comments.

Sosigrole · 28/10/2024 16:00

Is it because it’s a fur coat and vinted think it’s real fur maybe?

But the 48hr window only starts once the item has been delivered to the buyer. In this case, the fake seller doesn’t actually post the coat so there will be no tracking, and they’re never going to get any money because the buyer will never confirm the coat arrived. This is the point of Vinted keeping the money in escrow. 🤷‍♀️ If it’s a scam, it’s a dumb one.

raffegiraffe · 28/10/2024 17:35

They tend to change the status to 'we met up in person' then keep you hanging on so you miss the 48 hour window to complain and the money gets released. It happened to me but vinted did refund me as I noticed they had changed it to meeting in person

Piggles1979 · 28/10/2024 17:38

@raffegiraffe blimey. That's something for me to look out for. Thanks for the heads up!

I think with Royal Mail the tracking was not in the Vinted system so the 48 hr starts after a certain period of time which was apparently 25 days according to the Vinted help. They have recently changed this and made labels available in Vinted like for the other options so it will no longer be the case for future sales.

interesting - I didn’t know there was a meet in person setting on Vinted. They don’t seem to be doing much to weed out these scammers.
